How it Spread
At the time of the Black Death, it was unknown what the cause of the plague was. Then it was later discovered that rodents, or more so the flees are responsible. More research revealed that the Oriental rat flee was the primary carrier for the plague viruses. Flee-infested rats were common passengers on the ships of merchants. All they had to do was trail around from city-to-city and then the flee would bite the human (which they wouldn’t feel at all), and then the human was infected with the plague.

Bubonic was the most common during the Black Death. It attacks the immune system and causes the lymph nodes to swell and extremely painful buboes to form on the groin, armpit or neck. The next type – septicemic affects the blood vessels and the way that the blood clots and so blood either clots in the small blood vessels and affects blood and oxygen flow, or the blood is unable to clot properly which can damage organs and lead to internal haemorrhaging. The most dangerous and fatal type is pneumonic and the virus specifically affects the lungs. The reason for pneumonic plague being the most dangerous is that it is an airborne virus which leads to the virus having the ability to spread through coughing and people spreading germs onto one
