Ms. Gwen Holbrook
Journalism Advisor
Cardinal High Press
Gary, Indiana 10462m
Dear Ms. Holbrook:
Please consider my application for the position of news editor that would be available next fall. I have worked as a chief editor at my junior high school previously and have enjoyed the experience. Since I will be joining Cardinal High School as a freshman next year, my English teacher, Mr. Robin Borden, himself having been an editor for his high school newspaper, encouraged me to apply for this position.

I have worked as a news editor for Memorial Jr. Times for two years and, as chief editor, I was heading my team for the past year. Since we published our paper twice a month, I am used to working efficiently and accurately. Having the best people in my team made it possible for me to reach my full potential. It has never happened that we were unable to meet our deadlines, and our stories were always advanced and creative. Last year our paper won two Cronkite Awards for journalism excellence in news

The first year she was completely out of her shell, now she is open to trying new things. Her advice for new journalists, is “don't be afraid of edits, they will help you grow.” The dramatic thing that has happened in her journalist's experience is that people who can't be in the same room together makes it hard to write a paper. The biggest challenges for her, being an editor in chief was picking editors for next year, editors didn't get pages for their edits, some people plagiarized their story and editors did not finish their story, to add-on “you have to trust editors to get their work done,” Rosser…

I really enjoyed my first English year at La Serna. My strongest areas are writing in MLA format, writing essays more quickly, and being able to find key points and describe them. In my other classes, Skills that I would like to improve upon in English are writing poems. I never know what to write about and when I do I have trouble thinking of what to write and how to make it rhyme. What I would like you to focus on in my portfolio is my Great Expectations essay on Pip’s changes. I worked hard on that essay and I’m really proud of the grade I got on it.…

In this critical reflection, I will make an objective evaluation of what the course learned by the Advanced Journalism Skills in the spring semester. I also will talk about the problem I met during this process and the solution I took. In this course, we learned how to re-write and shape journalists' copies for print and online versions and how to use InDesign for layout to create a spread in a magazine. we completed a magazine spread whilst working with a team and worked towards a timed in-class exercise to create and completed the magazine. Our magazine style is based on the design of the BBC FOCUS, Time and other magazines. In addition, it incorporated the creative elements of our group, which eventually formed a magazine that contained…
