The writing Process
I. Prewriting Techniques:
A. Freewriting
1. Just keep it simple.
2. Come up with an idea or topic.
3. Just start writing and don’t stop till you finish a page.
4. Go back through your writing and eliminate anything that does not pertain to your subject.
B. Clustering
1. This technique works well for people that have a visual learning style.
2. Write your topic in the center of the paper, and draw a circle around it.
3. Draw lines from the circle to other words, subjects, and topics that relate to the previous topic, and draw a circle around them.
4. Continue this process until you have filled up the sheet of paper.
C. Brainstorming
1. Write your topic at the top of the paper.
2. Now just write down any and all ideas that come into your head.
3. You will end up with a list of ideas and related topics, eliminate anything that does not pertain to your subject.
II. Creating a thesis:
A. Is to get your point across
B. Used to tell your listeners what your essay will present or argue.

III. Organizing Details:
A. You could organize your details from most important to least, or vise versa.
B. You could organize your details chronological, on a time line, this is good for discussing events.
C. You could also organize your details from general points to specific points, or vice versa.
IV. Writing Essays:
A. Has to be a written composition on a particular subject from the author’s point of view.
B. It must convey the author’s view point and stance.
C. Essays are made up of main parts.
1. A Title
2. A Introduction
3. A Thesis
4. A Body
5. Paragraphs
6. A Conclusion
V. Avoiding Plagiarism:
A. Is any use of another’s words without proper acknowledgment.
B. Any source that did not come from the author, must let reader know the sources origin.
C. MLA and APA have requirements on citing text and sources.
D. Can have penalties.
