Why does it matters? And in this case, why they should listen to me, an international student’s words? Then I realized that my identity as an international students should be an important part of the letter. So I introduced Cauce’s main idea of creating a welcoming and inclusive community, and uses my personal experience to show that the community is not inclusive enough for international students because of tuition difference, and propose my action that can actually achieve the goal Cauce stated. For the first argument of why we should do this, I used Trump’s election’s significance to point out that there have been severe problems and now it is time to take action and solve the problems, instead of just saying words like Cauce. I also pointed out that tuition difference has been exploited and is a serious problem. I explained the negative effects tuition difference has brought, and how cancelling it can benefit the community. Then, I go back to my stand of an international student, addressing that we are highly qualified students that can bring significant benefit to the community, and used evidence to convince the protectionists that we are contributing to the U.S. instead of taking away …show more content…
In the past, I have always been confused about whether I should mention the merit of the opposite side. Because the main claim of this kind of writing are usually complex and arguable, it is hard to ignore the value of the other side. Yet I thought that we should stand firmly on our position in order to convince the audience, so I had never incorporate much counter argument. After taking this class, I realize that counter argument is a very important part of a persuasive argument, and is a crucial step to make the writing persuasive. By acknowledging the merit of the other side, and then override it, create a much more stronger and persuasive argument than only talking about the merit of one side. I am so excited about it, that I can’t wait to apply it in my MP2. In the analysis part, I was able to put up the counterarguments that I clearly anticipated, and did a lot of research and found evidences to defeat each one of them. It was a challenging but also interesting experience. I
