Domestic Violence and Its Effect on Children Domestic violence is a problem that affects millions of children daily. When we hear the word domestic the first thing comes to mind is the abuse between intimate partners or the abuse between husband and wives. Domestic violence affects more than husband and wives, it affects children as well. Studies have shown that 3 and 4 million children will be exposed to domestic violence daily and the violence tends to be a pattern that is passed down from generation to generation (Osofsky, 1999). How are children affected by domestic violence? It depends on the child and the situation they are put in. Some children are affected mental, physically, some children are affected socially and many are affected emotionally. However the child is affected it tends to have a short term or a long-term affect on the child life and can cause the child to have problems as they grow older if is treatment for the abuse is not given.
