Militarism is defined as “a belief or desire that a government or people should maintain a strong military capability and be prepared to use it aggressively.” In the London times History of the world (document C) it shows that by 1890 Great Britain, Germany, and other countries that would play an important role in the following years were spending millions of pounds in artillery. Even though, a couple alliances were made while imperialism and militarism were taking effect I do not believe it greatly caused WW1. If you look closely at history, you’ll see that in 1887 Germany made some negotiations with Russia without ever informing Austria-Hungary. Next, imperialism and militarism come in. For example, to expand one's country you need a boat or tank and soldiers with weapons. How else would you take a nation’s land without weapons that would scare them? While many powers were consuming land, others were afraid yet inspired. Afraid that they might get taken over but inspired to do the same.
