Good evening, adjudicator and chairperson. Todays topic as, I’m sure you all know is that parents should be held responsible for their teenage children’s actions. As the affirmative team, we believe this statement is absolutely true.

Today I’ll, be convincing you of this by showing you that as parents are most definitely financially responsible and as they are role models, who are a huge influence on their teenage children’s actions.

To begin with, as we all know parents are the main or, all the financial support for teenagers. The Junior Achievement Teens and Personal survey states that only 1% of teenagers aged 15 to 17 years old can support themselves financially without the help of a parent or guardian. For this responsibility Parents are expected to provide for their teenage children, and in this case it’s paying school fees, for schoolbooks, uniforms, accommodation, food, entertainment, clothes and much more, just what teenagers usually and necessarily need. Now let’s say that a parent doesn’t take that responsibility and fails to accomplish it, their teenage child’s actions, resulting from this, would become the parent’s responsibility, right ladies and gentleman? For example if a parent failed to pay for school fees, school uniform, plus school books and that teenager is uneducated its the parent’s responsibility. Which is a serious matter with serious consequences, as shown in the G Gawker CDC big annual report from 2005-2013 which states that young people uneducated leads to higher rates of obesity among their children, Higher rates of obesity for woman, breastfeeding children less, more likely to smoke, less likely to get tested for colorectal cancer and most importantly having a significantly life expectancy. If a teenager becomes homeless, it’s the parent’s responsibility, for not providing accommodation. If the teenager is sick or underweight it’s the parent’s responsibility, for not proving food. If the teenager is suffering depression,

Kathryn Tyler gives a good example of how parents were being super overprotective with their children and how that caused them not to be reliable for themselves. Tyler said something that really caught my eye, “Parental involvement in the lives of their offspring seems to be increasing every year. I’ve seen parents come to campus protesting a low-grade. When I caught one student cheating on a paper, his mom called and demanded I let him write a new paper”, in my opinion, I strongly agree with the writer's point of view. A lot of teenagers today are really in dependable because their parents have solved everything for them, but why?…

I agree with Kahn, parents do have a certain magnitude of authority over the youth of society, but it will only have a limited effect. Just as the aged people of today eventually gained or were allowed their ability to make their own decisions and others, so must the younger generation be able to do. This opportunity was one never given to Romeo or Juliet they were left in a position of the second type of connection, where their only option was to go against the rules and concepts set before them.…

Parents should allow their children to grow up on themselves for them to be able to make difficult decisions, so they realize how it is out in the real world. In both the articles “‘Snowplow Parents’ may be trapping their children” and “Kids of Helicopter Parents Are Sputtering Out” show that students’ parents are way more involved in their lives than they should be. Students should be allowed to have more freedom to be able to have fun, but they should also know that having an education is important to become successful or at least be smart in an area of their interest. As students graduate high school they are only a step away from being left alone by their parents and having freedom. Parents should be there to listen to their child’s needs…

First of all, the primary source uses many words to describe adults’ actions to indicate the oppression teenagers suffered right now. Evidence like “clean up your looks,” “watch all the things you do,” “got methods of keeping you clean” and “rip up your heads” clearly show what kind of oppression teenagers have and what they need to resist. Adults are trying to make teenagers fit the “good standards” created by them. Good teenagers should be innocent, be obedient, study hard and so on. What’s more, adults are ready to find out teenagers’ mistakes at any time so that they could guide teenagers to what they thought is the correct way. They also want to make teenagers believe that the adults’ words are all right. Teenagers who live in such environment…

I truly understand that teenagers makes some thoughtless mistakes and can’t yet think straight however I can assure money takes a huge part in all of the problems the world faces till this very day with the cause of poverty and economically harassed parents who have to work late nights to pay for new school uniforms that eternally need replacing as teenagers mature and hit puberty, without teenagers realizing it can lead them to serious misconceptions and making bad decisions at the heat of the moment.…

“You are pacing down the dark silent street, it is so quiet you can only hear your pounding heartbeat, a car pulls up in front of your feet, as the car door opens, one of your friends tell you to get in, everyone is drinking alcohol and you slowly start to lose control. Your window is half open, your bed is untouched and your parents are unaware that you are moving further and further away from safety. How are your parents supposed to keep you alive when the car has crashed on the side of the road? How do your parents know that you are gasping to breath when they are fast asleep? You slowly start losing blood; your whole life is at stake just because you simply did not listen to your parents’ guidance. Is this suddenly their fault because they went to sleep not knowing that a crash was going to happen?” This is a possibility of what could happen to ones child, or what could be possibly running through a teenagers mind. Should parents truly be responsible for their daughter’s actions when they have given them all the guidance to know their rights and wrongs? Parents should NOT be held responsible for their children’s actions…
