Nastaran's Book Report on 'The City of Bones' City of Bones is the first book of The Mortal Instruments series, set in modern New York, the series include City of Bones, followed by City of Ashes, City of Glass, City of Fallen Angels and City of Lost Souls. The sixth book, City of Heavenly Fire, will be released in May, 2014. The author Cassandra Clare writes urban fantasy novels for young adults. City of Bones is set in a present time. Clare was born as Judith Rumelt, to American parents, in Tehran (Iran), who soon changed her name to Cassandra Clare. Clare is known for her young adult fiction books, she is also popular for writing books such as; The Draco Trilogy based on Harry Potter, The Very Secret Diaries based on The Lord of the Rings, prequels to the Mortal Instruments series are called The Infernal Devices Trilogy , The Dark Artifices Trilogy, Magisterium Series (with Holly Black), and many short fictions to name a few; "Cold Hands", "Charming", "The Mirror House", "Other Boys", and "I Never". Also a movie based on City of Bones will be released by Sony Pictures this August 21st, 2013. City of Bones genres include young adult literature, notional fiction, supernatural drama, fantasy, mystery, and horror. The writing style of Cassandra Clare is precise and straight to the point while catching the most enjoyably the ironic and at times suspicious tone of teen banter. The strong sense of humour balances the unquestionably vivid horrors of the story, and she brings a sense of gothic horror and modern fantasy to her writing. In particular, the author is able to capture the colours and textures of Clary's world. The setting which takes place in New York gives a highly visual, almost filmic scene making City of Bones very enjoyable to read. The passage is written in third person perspective, almost entirely from the perspective of Clary, and tends to foreshadow. The author uses an informal tone with conveying emotions/feelings through her words.

City of Bones had some good effects. The Mortal Cup card magic, portal magic, runes, witchlight, and such sequences really came to life. Forcing you to believe. On occasion the effects were thick and fast, and they took away from the film, rather then enhancing it. Overall the director did an average job. The setting of the movie was awful. Everything looked the same. All the audience saw was dark and dusty rooms. I went to watch the adaptation of the celebrated novel City of Bones, not a 1940’s silver screen. The library in the Institute, which Clary adored, did not seem at all exciting to me. It was simply boring. Overall the setting was bland and repetitive and I wouldn’t be surprised if someone told me that he filmed the movie in his…

The prophet Habakkuk introduced in his Book is not considered a prominent figure, as he is considered to be one of the twelve Minor Prophets. There is no indication of his lineage and is just referred to as Habakkuk the prophet in the Biblical text, but due the liturgical nature of the verses in the book, some scholars have described Habakkuk as a cultic prophet. The apocryphal and post-biblical literatures do not reach a consensus to who he was. Some say that he came from the tribe of Simeon and others in the tribe of Levi, and information as such is not regarded as true facts, rather as romanticized add-ons of the story, supporting the idea that these were just tacked on as later details. The estimated date that it was written in, was a time recent to the battle of Carchemish, which was the beginning of the 7th century BCE.…

Analyzing “How to Read Literature like a Professor” is easy, but on the other hand, to analyze “The Bonesetter’s Daughter” is a consuming task. The difficulty doesn’t lie in the grammar, or the structure, but by not being sucked into the story, and instead employing the skills learned in Foster’s book. Amy Tan’s novel: The Bonesetter’s Daughter, seems to be a novel written for entertainment purposes, there seems to be no author’s intent; or use of literary devices that would contextualize a deeper meaning that is found in fiction, mythology, and folklore. Simple as that, although it may not seem like it, through the employment of the “guidelines” highlighted by Foster, the Bonesetter’s Daughter employs the literary devices that are masked by the reader’s awareness and by reaching beyond just the contextualization, it breaks the barriers of literature.…
