This Victorian poem is about the narrator (a fallen woman), the Lord and Kate. It is a ballad which tells the story from the narrator’s perspective about being shunned by society after her ‘experiences’ with the lord. The poem’s female speaker recalls her contentment in her humble surroundings until the local ‘Lord of the Manor’ took her to be his lover. He discarded her when she became pregnant and his affections turned to another village girl, Kate, whom he then married. Although the speaker’s community condemned the speaker as a ‘fallen’ woman, she reflects that her love for the lord was more faithful than Kate’s. She is proud of the son she bore him and is sure that the man is unhappy that he and Kate remain childless. Some readers think that she feels more betrayed by her cousin than the lord. This poem is a dramatic monologue written in the Victorian era.…

Good Morning teachers and fellow students, just what is poetry to you? Is it just a block of words organised to mean a message? Or does it have some form of deeper meaning? To me, poetry, especially Gwen Harwood’s, is a form of communication that transcends time, it is a method of communicating your emotions and especially your beliefs to those of your time and to those in the future, in light of this, I truly enjoyed Gwen Harwood’s poetry, as it has granted me the ability to see the world through a different, more interesting perspective.…

Poetry is feeling put into words, expressed rhythmically passionately and creatively, but even then poets still make some errors. Poems have a great deal of imagination, feeling and especially strong emotions. Poets may try to explain what they are feeling or writing about, but the reader may not quite understand. This is what causes confusion and problems to the readers when they are reading certain poems. Poets often make mistakes in their poems without even noticing it. A good poet describes their emotions or feelings the best they possibly can and remains with the same tone throughout the poem. They do not assume that the reader knows what they are feeling or understands it. Ken U Deviner's poems are an example of bad poetry and how he often makes mistakes or glitches in his poems. There are numerous ways to make mistakes without even noticing it. Bad poetry includes unnecessary repetition, change in the word…

In today's modern view, poetry has become more than just paragraphs that rhyme at the end of each sentence. If the reader has an open mind and the ability to read in between the lines, they discover more than they have bargained for. Some poems might have stories of suffering or abuse, while others contain happy times and great joy. Regardless of what the poems contains, all poems display an expression. That very moment when the writer begins his mental journey with that pen and paper is where all feelings are let out. As poetry is continues to be written, the reader begins to see patterns within each poem. On the other hand, poems have nothing at all in common with one another. A good example of this is in two poems by a famous writer by the name of Langston Hughes. A well-known writer that still gets credit today for pomes like " Theme for English B" and "Let American be American Again."…
Poems, like stories and novels, often have themes and ideas that are expressed. In the two poems I read, de los Santos’ “Perfect Dress” and Hoagland’s “Beauty”, it is apparent that great thought was put into themes of beauty and into the ideas and opinions behind it. Through analyzation of these two poems I will collectively share the opinions and uncover perhaps previously unrealized perspectives that perhaps is not originally apparent…
Poets create poetry based on their lives and experiences. While reading poetry each reader can interpret what the poem is about. The reader can take those words and relate them back to their own lives. While I read the poetry I related the stories to own life and found that these people have problems greater than mine. Poetry taught me that I need to value and appreciate my life because some people have it worse.…
The line of Mr. John Keating, "We don't read and write poetry because it's cute. We read and write poetry because we are members of the human race. And the human race is filled with passion. And medicine, law, business, engineering, these are noble pursuits and necessary to sustain life. But poetry, beauty, romance, love, these are what we stay alive for," emphasizes the point that poetry isn't just a literary form but it is something that is noble. It is a powerful media which we, human beings, can use to…

Poetry is a great way for a person to express what they are feeling, or what they feel about a certain subject through words. Following simple guidelines poets are able to create poetry that affects the way you may think about a certain topic or might have a strong emotional impact on you. Although there are many poems that can be considered great, only one can be the best. And that poem was written by William Shakespeare. It is titled Sonnet 18 and is a poem that centers on the feelings of love and admiration for a woman, by comparing the woman to nature’s beauty. As well as being well written and meaningful, this poem also earns its position as the world’s best poem by being one of the most well-known poems by Shakespeare, being quoted by many men trying to impress the women they are with.…
