George R. R. Martin’s short story about zombies does not focus on the zombie apocalypse as so many stories and movies do in today’s popular zombie culture. In what can only be assumed to be a far distant future, Martin’s zombies are surgically altered humans whose brains have been replaced by a synthetic alternative. This turns these formerly alive humans into form of cheap, or slave, labor that is exploited on planets where most humans are either unwilling, or unable to work (Martin, 2008). Martin’s zombies in this story harken back to the origins of the modern zombie mythos. Those being derived from the African slaves who toiled on the sugar plantations of Hatti (Estes, 2012). I do not think it is any coincidence that Martin’s zombies are…
The book, ‘The Killing Zone’ by Frederick Downs, is an autobiography of his own experiences in the war of Vietnam 1967. He splits the book into multiple sections and is in the format of diary inserts describing his journey from start to finish of his time in Asia and his physical and mental incidents. The first chapter is titles ‘The Bridges’ and his journal entries start September 8, 1967 when he arrives to Vietnam. He describes looking down at the war zone and being surprised by how many lights were actually illuminated and that the aircraft to be shot down. Downs didn’t expect the war zone to look so inhabited and visible from the skies. He thought that he was physically prepared for what he was getting himself into, but mentally he struggled. Downs was very confident in his abilities but didn’t know where he would fit into the war and what toll it would bring onto him.…
These zombies gnaw and pounce as they sniff the air for any human flesh. They pound doors and windows and get agitated once confronted with 10-foot cyclone fences. Once they are shot in the head, they die. Basically that is it on the zombie’s side of view because we never get to know what they are thinking. One of the most exhilarating pleasures of this movie is the script flipping. This is definitely a twist on the century’s most popular horror. “Warm Bodies” is a nicely directed and well-placed terrific love story with a lot of…

In the film Night of the Living Dead there were many unimaginable, grotesque things that are taking place throughout the film. We know that people are afraid of two things, death and the unknown. Johnny began by badgering his sister, Barbara just like he did when they were children by saying “they’re coming to get you Barbara” while visiting their father’s gravesite. This shows that Barbara, even as an adult, she is afraid of the unknown. Unbeknownst to Johnny, Barbara was actually attacked by the unknown. Johnny jumps on “the thing” to protect his sister. This is the first sighting of a “thing”. The sighting of the thing connotes fear and death. Barbara runs off and finds safety in a house not far from the graveyard. Barbara meets Ben when he enters the house for safety as well. The house is another connotation of safety and warmth. Ben jumps right in to protection mode because Barbara appear to be in a state of shock due to the gory sighting of “the thing” and its attack on her brother.…
Throughout the 1960’s the majority of the news was focused on death. Throughout the 60’s multiple assassinations occurred as well as the start of the Vietnam War. Employment rates were dropping and the nation was in turmoil. The nation’s people were afraid of death and likely began seeing it as unavoidable. They had lost a president and a Civil Rights Leader and many had family and friends who were sent to war. It probably seemed that everyone was doomed and no one was invincible.…
Rotting corpses, blood and guts are all unpleasant yet these elements are essential to any great horror film. Spoofing of horror films became popular in the year 2000 with films like Scary Movie that added ironic comedy and exaggerated plots to the gory slayings of serial killers and psychopaths. Most recently, zombies are all the rage. Zombies have hit the media full force with films and shows such as Zombie Land, 28 Days Later, I am legend, The Walking Dead, and World War Z. Shaun of the Dead is a British horror movie spoof about a unambitious 29 year old man, Shaun, who is trying to turn his life around and save the love of his life and his mum from a zombie apocalypse.…
Unless you are unfortunate enough to be at ground zero when the news hits of the zombie…
The topic that I would like to address for my zombie project is a more efficient mode of transportation in order to survive a zombie apocalypse. In The Zombie Survival Guide, Max Brooks he explains different means of transportation but limits them to water or air travel. In an apocalypse, healthy surviving humans should not be restricted to their means of travel. In order to stay alive, an adequate form of transportation is a necessity. Walking is too dangerous and slow, while a standard car purposes many different problems. A solar powered or a hydrogen fuel cell car are optimum modes of transportation during a zombie apocalypse.…
The myth of zombies has been debated for centuries and has brought about insane creative ideas about the unknown. Over time creative geniuses have looked to share their thoughts on the zombie myth through video games, comic books and television shows. One of the newest television shows that depicts a post-apocalyptic world filled with zombies is AMC’s The Walking Dead. The setting of The Walking Dead takes place in a world in which a massive, fatal, and gore filled disease has killed a majority of civilization on earth and has forsaken whomever that is left to fight to survive against the flesh eating, walking zombies and the other people that are also trying to live. The very first episode, “Days Gone Bye”, allows the audience to share the introduction to the post-apocalyptic world with the main character of the show, Rick Grimes, and build a strong bond between the audience and Rick Grimes because it is both of their first experiences with the new world.…
Carol starts out in The Walking Dead, a popular TV show, as soft-spoken and defenseless. She is abused by her husband, Ed, who eventually dies from being bitten by a zombie. Carol’s daughter, Sophia, is also soft-spoken, fearful, and defenseless like her mother, which is the cause of her turning into a zombie and eventually being killed. After Ed and Sophia died, Carol became independent and realistic. She knows that the world is a cruel place and must survive any way possible.…
Zombies are known to have “unstoppable craving for human flesh, especially brains” (Radforf, 2012). These plaque-infected ghouls have insatiable hunger; they will consume any living thing in their…
There’s this girl whose name is Ana, a nurse, who returned home after her duty from the hospital. The next day, all of her neighbors, including her husband, turned into a reanimated creatures craving for human flesh. She escaped and got inside an abandoned mall together with the other survivors. The number of zombies is getting bigger and bigger around the compound so they planned to leave the mall by building two modified buses designed to kill zombies blocking their way and getting a lot of guns and magazines from ammunition owned by another survivor Andy which is nearby the mall. They headed into a bay full of yacht because one of the survivors owns a key of his yacht in that bay. It wasn’t easy to get in there because you cannot almost cross the roads near the mall because all zombies are around the buses. They have lost a lot of people. They were able to get into the bay but only four made it. They sailed until they reached an island. They were attacked by another bunch of zombies and all of them died.…
Would you ever even think on your own high school getting ambushed by zombies? I know I wouldn’t ever think on the high school that I attend getting ambushed by zombies. Zombies would be in every entrance trying to break into the school. Maybe some zombies are already inside the school and I don’t even know about it. My high schools is huge! There are so many places that I can hide in. But there are also so many places that the zombies can get into. Before I know it, the zombies have already began to make their way inside the school. At this point I’m in complete shock. I have no clue where to run or where to hide. First thing I do is run to the cafeteria to gather a lot of fruit and water together because I need to…
