The similarities between the Haitian and Spanish American Revolutions is that they were started by creoles and neither in the beginning supported abolishment of slavery. Both revolutions were heavily influenced by the Enlightenment ideas. Creole came up with the new ideas from the Enlightenment, such as ideas of human rights and justice. The Haitian Revolution and the Spanish American Revolutions were due to social inequalities. Each declared independence as a result, and later they both had a break down in economic status, due to lack of labor.…
In the article Sometimes, The Earth is Cruel by Leonard Pitts, the author discusses how distressing it is to be Haitian. In nearly the past twenty two years, Haiti has suffered from multiple natural catastrophes. Haiti struggles with hurricanes, tropical storms, political instability, and most recently, a consequential earthquake. In his article, Pitts discusses how humans are able to return to stability after these occurrences, which is not the case for Haiti. Leonard Pitts recognizes that it always seems to be “Haiti’s turn.” The main predicament Pitts recognizes is that Haiti always seems to be the country next in line for natural catastrophes.…
Haiti and Hungary are two developing countries with many similarities and differences. First of all, the countries are very different. Haiti shares an island with the Dominican Republic off the coast of Central North America, wile Hungary is a land-locked country in central-eastern Europe ( Google Maps ). Haiti has a very tropical climate, however, Hungary's climate is more on the temperate side (www.geography-site.co.uk/pages/countries/climate/haiti_climate.html) (www.weatheronline.co.uk/reports/climate/Hungary.htm).…
Haiti have never been a developed country as Dominican Republic. Haitians would go to Dominican Republic for jobs and other resources…
As Dominican, i know that I'm black, i don't deny my African roots. We all black someway somehow. The solution to what is going on in Dominican Republic and Haitia is not becoming one country. On the other hand is to actually stable a government in Haitia the is well develop. Instead of giving $, is to actually go there and building school and hospitals just like how the DOMINICAN REPUBLIC did when the earthquake happend. The constitution in the Dominican Republic (R.D) says that if you are born in D.R. and your mother or father is not Dominican you are not Dominican. Is not like here, if you are born in the USA then you are American (United States citizen). If the United States wants to make D.R. to change their constitution or to make the…
My friend John Wesh is originally from Haiti and came to America 6 years ago. When he first came to America, he felt that it was very different. There were so many people walking around and crossing the streets that it made him uncomfortable. He saw a lot of corner store deli’s and that was something he was not used to having in Haiti. He came here for high school and here he considered getting out at 3pm late. Also transitioning from one classroom to another was something that he was not used to.…
Haiti was born out of struggle beginning in 1791 and lasting beyond 1804. The fight was never an easy one and even after independence, Haiti had many negative factors hindering progression. Haiti's progress was hindered mainly as she was ostracised by the international community. Due to the fact that Haiti was almost entirely cut off from the rest of the world, it was difficult for the country to repay the huge foreign debt in return for independence. The leaders that ruled Haiti after 1804, made decisions that proved to disrupt the growth of the country increasing the rate of corruption. After being monitored closely for a period of time the US invaded Haiti on July 28, 1915 for reasons which including keeping European powers out of the Caribbean, ensuring Germany doesn’t make its influence in the Caribbean through Haiti permanent and political power would give the US lucrative trade power.…
They say the grass is always greener on the other side, for Haiti this saying seems to be true. Haiti and the Dominican Republic share the island of Hispaniola, but are completely different in many ways. Haiti is the poorest countries in the western hemisphere and almost all of its people live in poverty, while the Dominican Republic is one of the wealthier countries. In 1960, both countries had the same per capita real GDP but in the last 50 years, the Dominican Republic has more than tripled its growth compared to Haiti. While these two countries are similar in geography and historical institutions, the growth between the two is drastically different. Throughout this paper, I will compare both countries economic growth and why two countries with the same geographic area are so different.…
Haiti remains the poorest country in the Americas and one of the poorest in the world (with a GDP per capita of US$ 725 in 2011), with significant needs in basic services. Over…
To conclude, United States and Haiti have two different ways of raising children, two different lifestyles, but alike in religions. Even though Haitian parents are poor, they raise good kids. Haitian kids do everything to protect their dignities. United States has a lot of work to do to improve the way of raising kids. American children need to be more respectful. In a society respect is very important. Children should be taught well. In this case they will behave every day in…
Haiti is the poorest country in the Western Hemisphere. According to the CIA World Factbook, 80% of Haiti’s population lives below the poverty line (“Central America and Caribbean: Haiti”). This means that the majority of Haitians do not have the money to get the basic necessities in order to survive. Also, Haiti’s annual GDP is $7.346 billion, making it a low-income country (“Central America and Caribbean: Haiti”). Compared to other countries, Haiti’s income is almost nothing. Since they can’t afford even daily necessities, it makes it incredibly difficult for the citizens of Haiti to acquire safe drinking water.…
The French Revolution and the Haitian Revolution made significant changes politically, economically, and socially. They both shared common characteristics of how the revolution began with a common precursor and method to achieve the end state. The pursuit of equality and liberty was the driving force that had awakened the French citizens and the Saint Domingue slaves to challenge and take action. While the two revolutions were similar, there were some differences. The French Revolution was an internal rebellion with the rise of the peasants and middle classes that fought to overthrow the monarch government, whereas the Haitian Revolution was a slave rebellion that revolted against an external threat, the French colonial government. The French Revolution occurred in 1789 and did not end until 1799. The Haitian revolution started in 1792 and ended in 1802.1 Both revolutions were fueled by the success of the American Revolution that ended in 1783. In addition, the Declaration of Man…
Voodoo is the dominant religion of Haiti it is said that Haitians are seventy percent catholic, thirty percent protestant and one hundred percent voodoo. In April 2003 an executive decree by then president Jean-Bertrand Aristide sanctioned voodoo as an officially recognized religion. I personally think it should be recognized as a religion in the same way Judaism or Christianity is.…
Some countries are very similiar to other economies while some are the exact opposite. For example a country could have a whealthy economy while another country could have a poor one , just like the U.S. compared to Cuba.…
Haiti and Dominican Republic are close, but only geographically seeing that they are physically close. One of the reasons why Xenophobia…
