Soap-fans are used to a fair amount historical revisions and logic-defying tales, but rapid plot and characterization changes are happening so frequently, consistency is non-existent and you're left wondering if the writers are fully mapping out concepts before they air. This was no more apparent than with the return of Paul Hornsby (Richard Burgi). First, he came to town wanting to take over Sonny's territory and use Ava Jerome as a lackey. Then, when the writers seemingly considered pairing him with Anna Devane, he was an undercover good guy that was trying to stop arms dealers. Though Paul took TJ hostage to bait and shoot Sonny (he was paralyzed and wheelchair bound for…

The role of a tragic hero within a story line is essential in a dramatic film or written work. The hero has the standards of becoming a great character that can take charge of the story through courageous action and bold dialogue. However, since the character is deemed a “tragic” hero, his flaws will ultimately be his downfall, usually leading to the characters own demise. Nowhere is this ideal of a tragic hero more relevant that in Chinua Achebe’s novel Things Fall Apart.…

Mrs. McCarthy silently leads me to her office. I’ve only been in here once. It was to plan my future. A future I will no longer have. Pamphlets line the walls, offering various solutions to make-believe problems. She sits in her La-Z-Boy desk chair, ripping apart at the seams from old age. To clarify,I’m referring to the ancient counselor, not the chair. “I have brought you here because I have some concerns regarding a particular party over the previous weekend. The conversation that starts Chapter 13 is not centered around Ender but rather his siblings Peter and Valentine. Two American I.F. officers unknown to the reader are discussing the Wiggin children due to the reasoning that the I.F. has finally caught on to their true identity, Demosthenes, and Locke. Instead of confronting the children the I.F. officers follow Graff’s advice, which is to do nothing and let them continue since they have caused no real harm or damage to the structure of the I.F. and may actually be correct about their political ideals. Meanwhile, in the lives of Valentine and Peter, they are enjoying the brother sister duo they have created with Peter being as dangerous as ever and Valentine taking pleasure in it. To a large…
