A Midsummer Night's Dream Analysis
A Midsummer Night’s Dream
Question Four a) There are many instances where the love potion “love-in-idleness is used in the play. The function of this love potion is to make someone fall in love with the first person/creature the see when awoken. The first instance where the love potion is used is when Oberon put’s the love potion on Titania’s eyes. The reason for this was is simply because Titania refuses to hand over the changeling boy. Oberon thinks that if Titania is so infatuated, she will be willing to hand over the changeling boy. Fortunately for Oberon, this is exactly what happens. The second time when the “love-in-idleness” potion is used is when Oberon orders Puck to place the love potion on Demetrius’ eyes, so he may fall in love with Helena. However, this is not what takes place. Puck accidently places the love potion on Lysander’s eyes instead of Demetrius’, this cause Lysander to fall in love with Helena. The third occurrence where the love potion was used is when Oberon puts the love potion on the correct male, Demetrius. Although Demetrius is now in love with Helena, so is Lysander. This leads to a conflict where Helena thinks the two males are plotting and making fun of her. Puck realizes that he has done wrong, and puts an antidote on Lysander’s eyes, so when he awake he will be in love with Hermia again. Another time where the love potion is used is very different. A potion isn’t being used to make people fall in love; instead it is to make them fall out of love. This potion is an antidote to the “love-in-idleness” potion. Oberon places the antidote on Titania’s eyes, out of pity, since she has handed over the changeling boy and has fallen in love with an ass. When Oberon places the antidote on Titania’s eyes that was the last time any potion was used. However, Demetrius is the only one still under a spell. b) The love potion adds to the plot of the play by giving us hints of what to expect next in the play and also complicating the

There are many characteristics that prove that Helena is a foil for Hermia. First, Hermia is always loyal to her friend, while Helena is not. Helena betrayed her friend (Hermia) by telling Demetrius about Hermia and Lysander's plan to run away. This shows that she does not care about their friendship very much, since she was throwing it away just to get a bit closer to Demetrius. Hermia, on the other hand, was trying to help Helena when she told her friend her plans, since she wanted to reassure Helena that she was not going to take all of Demetrius's attention anymore. As well, Helena seemed downright cowardly, whereas Hermia is fierce and brave. Hermia was brave to follow Lysander into the forest and give up almost everything she knew for their love. In their argument in the forest, Hermia wanted to fight, while Helena just ran away. Despite all the ways that Hermia insulted her, Helena would rather have Lysander and Demetrius defend her than try to deal with it herself. Finally, Hermia is caring while Helena is selfish. Hermia still prayed for Lysander even after he suddenly loved Helena and hated her, insulting her many ties. Helena telling Demetrius about her friend's play also showed that she did not think at all about how that would affect Hermia, and was very selfish. These events show that Hermia cares about others whether or not they care about her, while Helena only cares about herself. Although they are best friends and are put in similar positions, Hermia and Helena's differences make them good foils for each…

Romeo and Juliet relates to Mockingjay because in both there is a feud that causes people not to be together .In romeo and Juliet the feud is among the Capulet family and the Montague family.Romeo and Juliet are not supposed to like each other but they did. If there were no feud juliet’s father would not have tried to make her marry Paris, she would not have had to “kill” herself and Romeo would not have thought she was dead, therefor killing himself. In the play the prince states that because of the feud not allowing them to be together, Romeo and Juliet are dead; ”see what a scourge is laid upon your hate”(5.3.261) In mocking jay the feud is between the districts and the capital. katnis and gale are not able to be together because the…

I am Kaitlyn Luepann and I am portraying the fairy attendants Peaseblossom, Bottom, Cobweb, and the “jester fairy” Puck From William Shakespeare’s play, “A Midsummer Night’s Dream.” I will be portraying all these characters as one character with characteristics of all four. The ways I am going to adapt the characters that I am portraying are for me to have a witty sense of humour, yet have common courtesy and manners, and have respectful body language and a humourous tone of voice because the three fairy attendants are very respectful, but Puck is humourous. How I adapt all of the fairies body language and tone of voice from the play to the modern day is to be a respectful Starbucks worker, who cracks jokes in a funny manner while customers…

In A Midsummer Night’s Dream, Shakespeare is telling the readers that, love needs no reason to exist; it defies logic and ignores all circumstances. This compelling message is very thoroughly communicated with the connection of the fantasy world and reality. The connection occurs in a forest, where each character of significance is, at one point, present. Here, the characters experience unforeseen events, as a result of the debatable use of magic, from those in power. However, despite the extreme unusualness and complications, the characters challenge the circumstances, and persist in loving the one they feel closest to. In this play, this situation is best represented by three significant relationships. The first exists between a lover and her hater, the next involves a young and rebellious couple, and the last concerns an ill-fated mechanical and the queen of the fairies.…

Love is a mysterious journey. Love can either be for the better, or the worse. Love should be the choice of you, yourself, and not forced upon you by others. As the famous quote “Love is not for the faint of heart.” states, love is not an easy thing. You must undergo heartache, failure and rejection in order to succeed with love. This is very prevalent in A Midsummer Night’s Dream in the case of Lysander and Demetrius.…

A Midsummer Night Dream is a play written by the late William Shakespeare. This play is about a love triangle how one loves the other when the other does not like them until finally it all ends in a resolution, as they have a secret fairy world looking over at them, this play is almost like a mix between the fantasy world and the real! Bottom is one of the characters in this play, and in this play Bottom is a humorous and confident character, although being intelligent in other fields Bottom is not a very clever or educated man. Bottom and his fellow workmates are named the “rude mechanicals”, unsophisticated men but rather great tradesmen, working not with the mind but with the hands, though Bottom may be labeled a “rude mechanical” in many…

This is where Oberon sends Puck to sauce a little love potion on to demetrius eyes. Oberon gives Puck a very bad description of who he is supposed to put the love potion on. He ends up putting the love potion on Demetrius and Lysander’s eyes so instead of just demetriou they both get it. The potion makes the first person they see when they wake up fall in love with each other. Lysander and Demetrius both see Helena when they first wake up, so they both fall in love with her. Helena believes that they are just playing a joke on them and doesn't believe them. Helena believes that Hermia is in on the joke to. When Helena was talking to hermia she said, “Wherefore speaks he this, To her he hates?” (Shakespeare 230-231). Helena is basically saying he wouldn't speak to me like this if he hates me. This shows us that love is crazy demetrious went from hating helane to calling her a God and putting her on a throne…

The first set of characters impacted by the manipulation of love was Oberon and Titania. Throughout the story, their love was rocky. In the beginning of the play, the two were fighting heavily about a young boy in Titania's custody who Oberon apparently wanted for himself. The two fight for a while and eventually part on bad terms. This leaves Oberon feeling unsettled so he calls for Puck, or Robin Goodfellow, to find an herb that holds the power of love. This is where the manipulation begins. Oberon gives Puck instructions to place drops of the herb in Titanias eyelids and then "the next thing then she waking looks upon, be it on lion, bear, or wolf, or bull, on meddling monkey, or on busy ape, she shall pursue it with the soul of love."(Shakespeare, 2.1.179). Oberon believes that when Titania is madly in love with whomever or whatever, she will be more willing to give up the boy that he wants so badly. Titania falls in love with another character in the play, Bottom. The story goes on and towards the end of the play, Titania is released from the spell of the herb and her and Oberon renew their love. This relates to wc 972 the theme of the play in many ways. The way Oberon messed with Titania's feelings shows the manipulation of love for others' benefits. Also this shows how the love was rocky in the beginning but eventually smoothed itself out.…

An earlier play entitled, “A Midsummer Night’s Dream”, by William Shakespeare, is a comedy outlining the destinies of two bothered couples. Shakespeare tactically demonstrates the love of two Athens individuals, Lysander and Hermia. The conflict is, Hermia’s father is against the marriage of the two and insists upon marriage with a man named Demetrius. However, the already complicated situation becomes more complex when Hermia discovers that Helena, a deep-rooted friend, is in love with Demetrius. My initial interest of the play arose during the introduction of this conflict.…
