A Prized Possession
One of a prized possession for me would be an old fashioned watch given by my grandmother ten years ago. My grandmother bought this watch fifty years ago for my grandfather forty years old birthday. It was made by "Citizen Watch Co", rectangular shape style and has a leather straps. The watch was very popular back into 1940 because it was a "limited edition" watch. However, the price of the watch is not the reason for me to treasure it so much, the story behide is more important to me. My grandmother purchased the watch for my grandfather birthday present, however, that was the only present my grandmother bought for my grandfather. During 1940, the economy wasn't so good in China. A lot of children needed to find a job to support their family. My grandmother was one of the child need to support her family. She found a job at a factory and she met my grandfather (manager of that factory). They felt in love quickly, my grandfather always gave her present or food to bring back for her family. My grandmother felt that wasn't too good, therefore, she used her first year salary to purchase the watch for my grandfather present. When my grandfather received the present, he was so happy and he asked my grandmother if she wanted to marry him. My grandfather passed away twenty years ago, he didn't have a chance to tell me his love story with my grandmother, however, he left the watch to me and my grandmother told me anything happened between my grandfather and her. And she wanted me to keep this watch and pass it on for generations. My grandmother pass away five years ago, and she didn't tell her love story to my mother, therefore, I am the only who know the secret of the watch and the story of my grandmother and grandfather. The price of the watch maybe so valuable, however, the story behide the watch is more important than any other

In “The Things They Carried” Tim O’Brien brings fiction and autobiography together in this story about the Vietnam War. O’Brien also uses a very unique style in order to give the reader more understanding in the value of the objects the soldiers carry by using the repetition of the word and instead of using commas. Although this style may seem glorified from an artistic point of view, the audience might find themselves skipping ahead the long repetitious lists. Luckily for the readers, skipping the lists will not take away from the story’s main point.…

What these men carried was something to hold onto, moreover not an item but of a memory or a dream. Soldiers would do just about anything to stay sane and alive during the Vietnam War. I also have items that I would feel wrong without; these items are symbols of me.…

The three favorite objects that are symbolic of defining my identity are a bible, Kente cloth, and my college acceptance letter to Holy Cross. These three objects are very important to and have played a part in making me the motivated, open-minded, and independent young adult I am today. The first being a bible was given to me a church brother. At the time I was building my faith in God, it was a gift without the notion of how meaningful the bible would help me to seek God more and find favor in the eyes of others. The book of Ruth has shaped my identity to the fullest to live with purpose and be willing to sacrifice a lot for others. As a matter fact I have been able to build confidence in myself not being moved by materialistic aspects, but…
