Yamato Review
On Tuesday the 12th of November 2013, the show Yamato: The Drummers of Japan took place at the Eisenhower Auditorium. It took place at 7:30 pm and the student ticket price was fifteen dollars. The Japanese troupe: Yamato was responsible for this event. The show presented a type of Japanese rock ‘n’ roll concert that dates back many years in the Japanese musical history. The show had its ups and downs but mostly it was a good show with a few setbacks.
Some of the things that made it a good show were the different size drums that they used, the cool blue back drops, and the music playing in the beginning. One of the bad things about the show was that the audience had to read the translations.
One of the things that made the show a success were the different sized drums that the troupe used. The different sized drums were a success because if all the drums were the same size than they would produce the same sounds and the show would not have much diversity in terms of music and all the beats would sound the same. Therefore having different sized drums is a must because it opens up many new options for the troupe to play different music in, and it was also more visually entertaining than if the show were to have the same sized drums. In the show, they had one very large drum, four smaller drums, and two medium sized ones. This gave the music different sounds and made it sound very harmonic. It also gave us a feel of the different sizes and shapes, such as horizontal vs. vertical ones, available in the Japanese drumming market. Therefore, this aspect of the show definitely helped the show in becoming a success.
Another aspect of the show that made it a success was the pretty blue back drop that they used on stage. The back drops helped the show become a success because it’s much better to have a back drop that represents the troupe and gives it much more personalization than just a black back drop which doesn’t really represent the
