A short story
Ramazan was a thirteen years old boy. He was at a secondary school in Hüyük. He was very clever but he was also naughty. Ramazan was the only child of the family. He didn’t have any sisters and brothers, so he sometimes used to feel himself alone at home . He had only a few friends from school but after school he didn’t have enough time to play with them . Because his friends stayed in a dormitory and they had to go to the dormitory after school. Only they were free at weekends. So on weekdays it was almost impossible to play with them.
Once his mother told Ramazan: “My dear son, your father and I are going to Konya tomorrow and you will stay at home alone until we come back in the evening. While we are in Konya , please be good boy and do not misbehave. Your lunch is ready in the kitchen and we will come in the evening.”
Ramazan said “ Ok, mum. Don’t worry mum. I am old enough to stay at home alone. Tomorrow is Saturday and I can do my homework. Then I want to watch tv.” He was planning to his friends at home when his parents were in Konya. He didn’t tell his mother about his plan.
Next day, his parents were leaving home in the morning while Ramazan was waving them at the window. When they disappeared , he dialed the dormitory’s phone number and invited his friends. Before they came, he wanted to have a shower. While he was taking a shower, he heard a noise . He was frightened because he knew nobody was at home. His parents left home half an hour ago. He turned off the shower and put on his clothes immediately. But he was afraid of going out of the bathroom. While he was wearing his clothes, the noise became louder. It was from the living room. He was trembling with the fear. But he was curious about the noise. “It must be a thief” he thought. And he went out of the bathroom silently. He went into the kitchen and took a knife. When he walked through the corridor, he heard the voice of a man. “Do not come here . I will kill

Growing up without a mother really caused Amir to look up to his father. Amir tried to make his father proud in everything he would do whether it was writing stories in his adulthood or fighting kites in his childhood. When Baba passes Amir wondered, "Baba couldn't show me the way anymore; I'd have to find it on my own" (Hosseini 174). Baba was a man of great honor and in Amir's eyes he seemed to make little to no mistakes. Because of his high amount of respect for his father, Amir feels as though he should right his wrongs with Hassan because he knew that Baba loved and truly cared for Hassan. When Hassan and his father, Ali, left it devastated Baba. As Baba mourns their departure Amir states that he "... saw Baba do something I had never seen him do before: He cried" (Hosseini 107). Baba never showed emotion. For Baba to breakdown and actually cry at the fact that Hassan and Ali are gone conveys that he loves and cares for them both. Amir experiencing this display of emotion by his strong father influences him to help Hassan out in any way he…

Rama behaves honorably in fulfilling his familial duties. Although Rama undergoes the ignominy of being exiled, he willingly accepts the circumstances and does not attempt to orchestrate events in his favor. King Dasaratha is forced by Kaikeyi to send Rama into exile and even though Rama’s family members and advisors try to convince him to stay, he refuses to do so. When his father attempts to break the promise he made to Kaikeyi and begs Rama to stay, the latter still chooses to go out of respect for his father’s initial words. In one case, Rama says to his mother that his father is “renowned for the steadfastness of his words” and he is “blessed...to carry out his father’s command, and to live in the forests” (Narayan, 46). By choosing to…

Evidence of Amir’s “daddy issues” are revealed when he alludes to how Baba would take both Amir and Hassan to buy kites from the city’s most famous kite maker, the old man, Saifo. The two boys receive three identical kites and spools of glass string. From the quote, “If I changed my mind and asked for a bigger and fancier kite, Baba would buy it for me – but then he’d buy it for Hassan too. Sometimes I wished he wouldn’t do that. Wished he’d let me be the favorite”, I believe that not only is Amir’s personal conflict with his father is revealed, but also major character flaws of selfishness and jealousy is exhibited as well. The central external conflicts that Ahmedi is challenged with throughout the story include taking the major risk of traveling alone without any men, the atrocious conditions of the van ride to get to the border, and the tiresome uphill trek of the mountain path that she had to cross in order to make it into Afghanistan. She deals with nature’s conflicts all while maintaining the safety and well-being of her asthma ridden mother. In the quote, “As for getting across the border, no one knew what that entailed. And as for making the journey from the border to Quetta, that was like asking how to get from one part of the moon to another part.”, it shows that she was conscientious of the possible dangers, risks, and complications that were to come from this…
