Introduction:
This assignment provides an opportunity for students to learn how to write a proposal for an established hotel spa that caters to the needs of senior hotel guests specifically. Through this proposal students will have an opportunity to demonstrate their knowledge in spa operations and management.
Targeted Outcomes:
This assessment is designed to assess students’ achievement of the following Module Intended Learning Outcomes:
1. Trace the origin of spa to highlight how its present evolution has shaped the spa industry today.
2. Explain the healing properties of water and the means to apply them to promote the health of the body.
3. Distinguish the most common spa therapies, their backgrounds and differences for matching client needs with appropriate therapies.
Instruction:
Students are required to team themselves up into groups of 5-6 and each group is required to write a spa proposal for the T Hotel that provides treatments, activities and programmes for senior hotel guests. In the proposal the following three main chapters are required to be included:
The Spa Industry:
In this chapter students should give a description about the spa industry in the region in general and Hong Kong in particular. The following should be discussed:
1. A brief description of the spa industry in the region;
2. An introduction to the Hong Kong spa industry; and
3. A brief description of the spa in the T Hotel
Hotel Spa Attractiveness Needed:
In this chapter students are required to perform a research on issues related to elderly health and wellness as well as to discuss needs and wants of senior hotel guests regarding hotel spas. The following topics should be explored and discussed:
1. Interrelationship of wellness, health and ageing; and
2. Needs and wants of senior hotel guests in hotel spas
