1. In a sentence or two, what is the premise of the play? A: The premise of the play is Blanche’s covering of reality with fantasy and deceit within herself. 2. Describe the exposition. A: The exposition is the 1940s in New Orleans, LA. Blanche took a streetcar named Desire from Laurel, MS to her sisters’, Stella’s apartment. Stellas’ place is in the working-class district in a worn-down part of the city. 3. What is the inciting incident? Give the exact line or action. A: The inciting incident is the arrival of Blanche to Stellas’ apartment. 4. Why is this the inciting incident? A: Blanche believed that her sister, because of there upbringing, was living in a high class of town. However, she is hit with the reality of being in a worn-down part of town. 5. Briefly describe the events of the rising action. A: Stanley and Blanche don’t get along because Stanley believes that Blanche acts superior, “funny” and high-class. Blanche doesn’t like Stanley because not only did he abuse his sister, she sees him as a sub-par suitor for Stella. Stanley and Blanche’s interactions are very hostel. While Blanche is trying to cope with her past, by taking baths and such, Stanley is constantly trying to bring her back to reality in the cruelest of ways. He pry’s into her past finding the truth about Blanche. While all of that is going on, Stella is trying to balance the relationship she has with her husband and sister without choosing sides. 6. What is the climax? Give the exact line or action. A: The climax is when Stanley rapes Blanche. 7. Why is this the climax? A: After Stanley gives Blanche a one-way ticket back to Laurel, this really destroys her. She franticly talks about being trapped. Stanley reveals that Blanche was
