A WELCOME ADDRESS BY THE PRESIDENT OF UMUNNA BU IKE SOCIAL CLUB OF NIGERIA
ON THE 3RD INDUCTION CEREMONY HELD MAY 4TH, 2013 Mr. Chairman, His Royal Highnesses, Ndi Nze an Ozo, Members of Igbo Council of Chiefs and Traditional Rulers, Distinguished Ladies and Gentlemen. Good evening. Eight years ago, a child was born in Dallas/Fortworth metroplex with just only seven members under the leadership of Mr. Chinedum Eguzouwa our first executive president. Today, that child has grown to the strength of 60 members and has the potential to grow more as the years go by. That child is UMUNNA BU IKE SOCIAL CLUB OF NIGERIA DALLAS/FORTWORTH. It is with great pleasure that I welcome you to this great occasion. I understand that there are many engagements in and around the city but you chose to be with us on this our 3rd induction party to witness why we are called UMUNNA BU IKE as young and dynamic club in Dallas. Tonight, we will induct ten families who were the lucky ones among many that applied. For those that were not admitted at the time of their interview, our reluctance in admitting you then did not mean that you were not qualified rather, it was based on the premises that our club does not engage on mass admission. Therefore, we encourage you to continue to reapply and on time so as to be among the very first ones to be interviewed. It is worth mentioning that to be considered for admission, you must be married and remain married because our club is built strongly on family values. To our new inductees, I welcome all of you to this great club. You will see for yourselves the difference between Umunna Bu Ike and any other club that may belong. You have made the best choice our your life in term of choosing a social club to belong. We will support and encourage you in our Umunna Bu Ike spirit. We encourage you to be steadfast in your marriage and uphold your family values that unites our club. You will be inducted tonight and we asked all your supporters to

Alice Walker’s The Welcome Table. I chose this piece of literature because I read her novel The Color Purple when I was in high school, and I really enjoy her writing style. This story also brings back memories of things my family would tell me about how terribly black people were treated during that time period. It makes me sick to think of how people were treated so horribly simply because of the color of their skin.…

My most important activity was when I had to choreograph a dance for our Black History Month event. The challenge for me was to choreograph a dance from Ghana, however, I did not know anything about the culture. I began researching and found out about the Kpangolo dance of Ghana. This dance represent the pulling of fishnets, the occupation of Ga people. I taught and performed this dance at my school informing others on the Ghanaian…

The Induction Program and Acquaintance Party has been a periodic activity of the society. This opened an opportunity for the members, faculty, and advisers to be acquainted with each other. Singing, eating, playing and conversing as one family bring the tie closer. For this academic year, 2012-2013, the event was conducted last August 11, 2112 at room 201 with the theme: “Mathematics Society: Home for leaders”. It started with the usual opening of any program. Ms. Ruth Lane Botal led the invocation followed by the singing of “Ang Bayan Ko” conducted by Ms. Ella Isabelo. Ms. Harriet Pidlao acknowledged the presence of the participants while Mr. Agustine Lizardo gave the welcome remarks and gave some encouragements to all the members. He included the relation of “reflexive property” in real life situation that made the participant understand the relation between it. he welcomed the participants with the question, “What is your purpose in coming in this affair?” the question gave the participants different reactions while some jokingly answered that they were forced (hoping not). Ms. Jhay Sapdoy read the History of the Mathematics Society. She narrated the events that have been accomplished by the organization since its birth and its ups and downs with special mention to the society’s trademark- the tutorial services. She also mentioned about the society’s best achievement for the year 2011-2012 that is, being the Student organization of the Year. Before the introduction of the guest speaker, a special intermission was given by the first year students. Ms. Rhoda Kinfawan introduced the guest speaker. The guest speaker, Mr. Jedric Pangket, gave a message that inspired all the members. He described the society as a well-organized one basing from the mentioned accomplishments and he said that this should retained by working hard and helping each other for the good of the organization. All members should cooperate and be active in all the…
