The community in which I reside is a very rural setting. It has not ascribed to the marriage covenant movement per say, however, the state has mandated that all marriage license fees be reduced by $32.50 if the couple completes marriage counseling sessions of at least four hours. This counseling must have taken place no sooner than one year prior to the date on the marriage license application.[1]…
Prior to 1975, divorce was an arduous process that required one of 14 grounds to be met. Society’s pleas for a more just divorce process were fairly met by the revolutionary legislation the Family Law Act 1975 (Cth), which introduced ‘no fault’ divorce – making the sole ground for divorce the ‘irretrievable breakdown of the marriage’. This act also ensures that nonfinancial contributions to a marriage are considered on the dissolution of the marriage, effectively achieving greater justice for women. However, many criticise this legislation for rendering divorce too easy, with 1/3 marriages ending in divorce…

Anne Bradstreet's poem "My Dear and Loving Husband" is one of the most romantic poems of all time. Being that Anne Bradstreet was a very early poet of the Puritan times this poem is very unconventional. The poem has a very loving air to it that carries throughout.…
Ulrich shook his head. “It’s not that. I wouldn’t want to see a woman get hurt is all. Everything else you said sounds reasonable, though I’ll confess I haven’t thought much about some of those ideas…”…
Many people believe that everything is fair in a divorce. They take divorce as a win-or-die situation and consider the filing of divorce forms as the beginning of a war against their spouses. They may try all the possible ways and tricks to win this battle.…
The purpose of the essay, "I Want a Wife", is looking on the other side of the fence and describing what is seen on the outside. Brady is a feminist and it shows by the overall tone of the paper. Brady stereotypes men on every level and there were several parts I found offensive. Brady’s opinion was based upon her life experenses with her husband. Brady seems to want a personal assistant not a wife. I feel she is quoting the items she does for her husband and how she wants someone to do the same for her. Brady lists the responsibilities that a typical woman in the 70's would usualy do in the public eye. The tone of the essay is comedic and sarcastic, but Brady is calm and sweet in the overall approach. Her message is clear, she wants women…
50 percent of children in the United States watch their parents go through a divorce (Children-and-divorce.com). If you have 10 friends, 5 of those friends could have divorced parents. Do you know how it feels to have divorced parents? Maybe you do know, maybe you are a victim of divorce. Even though it might be for the best of the parents, the loss of stability that comes from a divorce affects children and even adults in many ways.…
On September 11, 1998, President Clinton gave his infamous speech he titled “I have Sinned” at the Prayer Breakfast. In this speech, he addressed the issue of having a sexual relationship with a woman named Monica Lewinsky and apologized for his actions. The nature of his first speech seemed more of “self-defense” rather than the apology the American people wanted to hear (59). In the attempt to have a successful speech, President Bill Clinton had to have a remorseful, yet confident attitude that did not come across insensitive. I believe that in his speech, he was truly sincere and meant his apology.…
I believe that arresting spousal batterers can never do any harm. The research study presented by Schmidt and Sherman seamed very bias. After being proven to be misinterpreted by Stark my beliefs were held strong. Spousal batterers need to be reprehended and the victims need to be protect the minute they call for police help. Distancing the victim from their attacker can be a major help in allowing the victim to realize her reality. The time the batterer is away doesn't make a lot of difference. Besides no one in his or her right mind is going to want to go to jail or be arrested again, at least for while longer. I do believe that mandatory arrest give women a sense of power provided…
“Many of the 1.5 million children in the U.S. whose parents divorce every year feel as if their worlds are falling apart”. Divorce is a common trend among our society today. People chose to get marry early since they think they’ve met the love of their life already. Maybe sometimes they even decide to have a kid while thinking carelessly. I believe divorce is a major issue in our society today; it’s not as easy as it seems and occasionally affects children who is involved in the divorce.…
In 1950, only a few states allowed the no-fault divorce. In this kind of divorce, the divorce would not be issued unless one of the couples committed a sin such as adultery, desertion, brutality, intoxication or some other reason that made it difficult to continue the marriage. “At that time, divorce was relatively uncommon and difficult to get in the United States. Fault was usually required-one of the spouses must have committed a crime or sin that justified the divorce” (Attorneys1). This might go back to the reason where the United States’ people and government use to be connected more to their religion. Then, around 1970, approximately all states allowed the no-fault divorce. Moreover, when the United States society’s laws have changed, the divorce numbers also have been shifted showing an increase in rate…
Things we have always had in our lives sometimes are taken for granted. A house, enough food, money for life’s necessities, and sometimes, worst of all, our families. When we have all these things given to us starting from the day we are born, we don’t give very much thought to it. For those without these things, life can be very different. American youth born in areas in which all of these aren’t relatively common are influenced to live very different lives. In The Other Wes Moore, by Wes Moore, both boys named Wes Moore without fathers living in their immensely poor neighborhood display the effects of living in a destitute area without a proper male mentor.…

Guilt is defined as any tension, discomfort, sense of shame, or other unpleasant feeling that humans experience. Kenneth Burke argued that guilt is the central motive for human action, specifically communication. According to Burke, the ability to feel guilt is an emotion only felt by humans, and is possible because we are symbol using animals. Burke argued humans always feel guilt thus are always trying to purge themselves of the discomfort that guilt causes us.…
