In 470 BC Pericles entered politics. Pericles believed strongly in politics saying “just because you do not take an interest in politics doesn't mean politics won't take an interest in you”. As a leader Pericles wanted people to understand that although you may not be interested in the work of your government there will always be a need for you knowledge and contribution. Once he had joined the assembly, he became a fellow politician which is where he began to become popular within the assembly. Many events following his vote onto the assembly meant that the old Athenian leader was exiled. Today the period of time between 460-429 is referred to as the ‘Age of Pericles’. Pericles also believed that Athens was an icon of Greek culture. He believed that Athenians should be the ones to lead the Greek government. Before, becoming a participant of the Athenian government was almost impossible. However, Pericles believed that all native Athenian men over the age of 18 had the right to participate in the government. He also made it possible for poor men who could not afford to leave their jobs,to participate should they choose to. This meant men of all social classes were now part of the government. Not only was serving in the government a privilege, but also a responsibility. Pericles believed in that very strongly. He always had the community's best interest at heart, showing that he was worthy as leader…

Pericles plan for democracy was also for the poor to not be discriminated for social rankings. Greek civilization, in many ways, was the most advanced population of it's time. The Greeks have created a great stir in modern day values, events, and philosophy, and they were just getting warmed up. The question, "What did the Greeks contribute to modern society", was posed, and I will begin to answer. The Greeks created a vast religious system, filled with heroes, gods, villains, monsters, and more. This has fascinated us, and has even influenced some of our brands of clothing, Nike for example (Nike being the goddess of victory). Speaking of Nike, the Olympic games were held in celebration of her, and was often seen as the main event. She was held in the hand of the statue of Athena during the games, and the olive wreaths were actually…

The sharing of their ideas, inventions, and contributions had a massive influence on the future of many civilizations.…
When forming the new system of government for America, the framers of the Constitution understood early on that if they were not careful, any one group could abuse the power bestowed upon them. They are the executive, the legislative and the judicial branches. Each of the three branches is responsible for its own functions and each are responsible for providing necessary oversight to the other.…
Greece’s culture is high context, which means that for the Greek culture the meaning of messages is determined by the context or the environment. Most of their communication is implicit. The members of the culture are skilled in reading non-verbal cues. Their interactions do not need explanation because of their common history. This is the reason why Greeks will interrupt what someone is saying while they try to figure out what is means. This is a common aspect of Greek communication. Greeks tend to speak quite loudly and with a lot of emotion. At times it may appear as if they are yelling and annoyed but it is most likely a normal tone of voice. Direct eye contact is expected it is viewed as a sign of interest and respect towards the speaker.…

Do you know any historical background on the word giant? Greek and Roman mythology is present all around us. Many new and interesting words were created from the Greeks. There are many types of myths that we hear about including; gods, goddesses, mythical heroes, other heroes, monsters, and villains. When looking up these myths, research will show that many of the words we say today come from these gods and goddesses. An example of this is the words gigantic and gigantism comes from giant. The word giant has a long, unique, and mysterious background. According to dictionary.com, “Giant is very large; abnormally great development in size.”(dictionary.com) Prior to my search, I predicted that a giant was a very large man that lived in the forest and had no connection with either gigantic nor gigantism. I inferred this because of movies and books. When I saw the word gigantic I remember hearing it and I thought it meant a large person, but I had no idea it was related to Greek or Roman mythology. Gigantism puzzled me because I’ve never heard it before. As I came across the definition of gigantic, I found out that it meant very large which connects to giant and gigantism. (dictionary.com) upon conducting research, I learned more about the root word giant, coming across information about its etymology and actual story behind it.…
