INTRODUCTION
I am glad we have met here on this presentation even if we might be all somewhere else at this beautiful day, so it is a pleasure for me to see you and have a chance to talk to you.
My name is Sandra Gavrilovova and I am a founder and manager of the Food Bank here in Slovakia.
Today, I am going to tell you something about our company, how it all began, what is our primary aim, what we do, for who we do and especially why we do it. Before I start – let me ask you a question: How many of you have a daily access to food without any financial or whatever other problem? I guess everyone. And how many of you have ever threw a food away because you did not like it or you were already too full to eat more or, with no offence, too pampered to pack it and eat it later as you can buy something else? ABOUT FOOD BANK
As I already mentioned, I am going to present you our company, our activities, aims... But first, I will tell you something about both history and creation and then specificaly about us.
In year 1967 John Van Hengel established his first Food Bank in Arizona, USA – today, it is more than 200 of them.
The first European Food Bank was established in Paris in year 1984. It was the answer for the continually more difficult social-economical situation of the french citizens at that time. Among french people, it was the Bernard Dandrel, current chairman F.E.B.A, who believed this idea.
In year 1986 it was opened the first Food Bank in Brussel. Representatives of the Belgian bank and assistants of the French Food Bank Federation signed the bylaws of the European food bank federation (FEBA).
Later it came Italy, Spain, Ireland, Portugal, Greece, Poland and then also Luxemburg, Swiss, Ukraine, Netherland or Hungary.
