Christians and the Environment “For this is what the Lord says, he did not create it to be empty, but formed it to be inhabited” (Isaiah 45:18 NIV). Meaning that our earthly habitat is not unexpected, it is worth more than anything in this world. “For by him all things were created: things in heaven and or earth, visible and invisible, weather thrones or powers or rulers or authorities; all things were created by him and for him. He is before all things, and in him all things hold together” (Colossians 1:16-17 NIV). We learn in Genesis that when God created the world he took his time proclaiming it as good. This good creation was rich and different, with plants, trees, and animals of all kind. The world is God’s masterpiece: He created it to illustrate his character. The bible teaches Christians to understand the true value of the World in which we can deal with in the environment crisis. It is known that society feels as though everything in nature is connected. Many believe that the events that happen are consequences of our actions. We need to treat the environment with respect in order to avoid the consequences. For example; September 11th, in New York the world trade center was blown up. On January 11th the disaster in Haiti and on March 11th the earthquake in Japan, as Christians what have we done to help these countries? “Then he said to them: “Nations will rise against nation, and the kingdom. There will be great earthquakes, famines and pestilence in various places, and fearful events and great signs from heaven” (Luke 21:10-11). God already knew what was in store for the environment and the actions that were going to be taken. “Human beings have become the predominant destructive forces on Earth. With power hands and minds amplified by machines, our impact exceeds that of great floods, hurricanes, and earthquakes. The time has come when we can envisage he end of
