Claude Monet was an impressionist painter who would later influence the movement of modern art and create one of the most famous paintings Water lilies (Oscar 1). This has been recreated many times by artists all over the world. Claude Monet was born in Paris France on November 14, 1840. In his early life he loved to be outdoors and would always draw in his school books. At the age of five he lived in the Normandy Region with his siblings and later on moved back to Paris after the death of his mother to become an artist; his father wanted him to study business, but he still chose to pursue his dream (Oscar 1). Georges Seurat was part of the Neo-impressionist movement. He was born in Paris France on December 2, 1859; he started to gain interest in art because of his uncle and soon began to take lessons from him. He was enrolled at the famous Ecole de Beaux-Arts Paris. He was fairly interested in work from Monet (Georges 1). They both have their similarities and differences; they both wanted to capture more natural scenery of what everyday life is like. Seurat used a new method called Pointillism, which can be seen in his Sunday afternoon painting (Thomas 162). Monet was mainly known for using brush strokes to show urgency/movement in his paintings. Monet used pastels; they were colors that were better to work with when trying to mimic nature (Oscar 124). Seurat used colors that were undiluted and layered on top of one another. Water…
Impressionism was the late 19th-century art movement that sought to capture a fleeting moment, thereby conveying the elusiveness and impermanence of images and conditions (Kleiner, 2013, p. 1087). In late 1841 and the beginning 1843, the invention of paint in metal tubes was invented. This allowed the artists to transport the paints and paint out in the outdoors and paint instead of being shut off in the studio (Sayre, 2011, p. 1020). The three painter of this era that is essential to understanding this period is Claude Monet, Edgar Degas, and James Whistler.…
Also, if you look very closely at the painting, you can see some brush strokes that the painter made. I like that because the viewer can see how thick the paint is and how you move onto the canvas. Lastly, I like how there is light around the top of the painting. I love how the artist used different colors and shades. This art piece goes very well in my family's dining room, in my opinion.…
I chose this painting because it seemed very interesting. I looked through a bunch of different pieces of art done by him and a lot of them have skulls in it. For some reason. And then he just adds random things in it to make the painting stand out more. This artist takes ordinary things and make them into something that you never seen before. For example the glass in the skull. I have never seen that anywhere before. I like the way he emphasized the…
In my opinion this painting lives up to its hype. The artistry is pure genius. Leonardo da Vinci makes the viewer see exactly what he wants them to see. The…
Known as one of the greatest intellectuals of the twentieth century, Claude Levi-Strauss, a French anthropologist, has a prominent place in the development of the theory of structural anthropology. The Sunset Heights composition made me feel special because I kind of know where the painting took place and I also noticed the “La X”, Juarez monument, on it too. In the other hand, there was works of art that I could not relate to and they were harder to understand. For example, Magic Bus was a complex painting and it had more variety than any other work of art in his exhibition. There is a colorful bus in the middle of the painting with people inside including a king and a queen, then outside the bus we had like circus people preforming, and there were musicians on top of the bus. Also the background was strange as well, we had the sun in one corner and the moon in the other side and there was a rainbow in between them, there was fish at the bottom and stars at the top. I took the longest in this painting, even at the end I was still confused and did not understand the purpose of this painting.…
Henri Matisse was a French artist, known for his use of color and originality. He is also commonly regarded, along with Picasso, as one of the two greatest artists of the 20th century. In addition Matisse was one of the great initiators of the modern art movement, which uses the combination of bold primary colors and free simple forms. His most notable paintings that comes to mind after visiting Moma is Blue Nude, Le Luxe II, Bathers with a Turtle, and La Danse. Collectively, these paintings have various similarities as well as differences from each other.…
The first painting I came across that I instantly feel in love with was Yves Tanguy’s Neither Legends nor Figures 1930 oil on canvas. The teal blues and parts of grey drew me in, the unique shapes and floating objects made me wonder what she was trying to capture but overall it was the blues of the sky that had me intrigued.…
The bright and vivid background color and the woman’s gesture drew me to this particular piece of art. The brighter color gives people a sense of happiness and that’s why I like it. His painting style is different from the original impressionism, so I want to know the…
Henri Emile Benoit Matisse was born December 31, 1869. Matisse was known for his revolutionary effects during the early twentieth century which are his expressive use of color. Widely regarded as Monet’s single most famous painting, Impression, Sunrise was completed during the late nineteenth century in 1872. The most significant aspect of the painting is its credit with giving the Impressionist Movement its name. When the painting was first shown to the public in the L’Exposition des Révoltés—an exhibition independent of the Salon that was organized by Monet, Bazille, Pissarro, and their friends—many critics were extremely disapproving of the rebel group’s work, especially that of Monet.[2] In the April issue of Le Charivari, a critic named Louis Leroy judgmentally entitled his article “Exhibition of the Impressionists,” thereby coining the term inspired by the title of Monet’s work Impression, Sunrise. Although this oil painting was disparaged during the time of its creation, today it is viewed as an austere example of the mindset and purpose behind Impressionism. Currently, Impression, Sunrise is located in the Musée Marmottan in Paris, France.[3]…
Several characteristics were borrowed from this artistic form, from the use of color to the way forms were portrayed. Objects such as the wave, the folding screen, and the bridge were critical sources of inspirations to break apart from the standards. Artists such as Edgar Degas, Paul Cézanne, and Édouard Manet began to utilize these newfound techniques in their work once Japanese art was discovered in the West. Each of these individuals partook in studies of the culture in some way or another, leading to positive changes in their works. Without the Impressionists dabbling into great Japanese impact, the intoxicating demeanor to follow would have been…
