In the story The Tale of Cupid and Psyche the main theme would be love. The story is all about the power of love and how it affects everyone actions. An example would be when Cupid went against his mother’s order. Venus had order Cupid to make Psyche fall in love with an undesirable, unattractive man. Cupid decided that he was attracted to Psyche and wanted to be with her. This led Cupid to poke himself with one of his arrows which enhanced the love he had for Psyche. The catch was that Psyche was not to know who her husband was even though she grew to love him. This act drove the plot forward without Cupid going against his mother’s wishes there would not be much of a story. The motifs in this story would be beauty and jealousy. Venus is obsessed with being the prettiest God and hated that a mortal’s beauty was being compared to hers. Her jealousy led her to want to destroy Psyche in order for her not to be competition anymore. Another motif I thought of is how curious Psyche was; just about everything she was told not to do she ended up doing. An example of this would be when her Cupid told Psyche her sisters were evil and not to listen to them when they suggested that she find out who her husband was. Instead of listening to her husband she did the exact opposite and caused herself grief.
The first conclusion I thought of was that Psyche would eventually find out who her husband and father of her child was. I expected for everything to end with everyone getting their way except Venus and her sisters. As in many stories like this one the antagonist gets what they deserve. In this case the sisters die and Venus has to live with her son being married to
