D.A.R.E Essay
When I was about 4 years old me, my brother, and my mom came home one day to find our babysitter lying in our kitchen floor dead. We called the ambulance and the police. They had found out the reason she died and the reason was that she did a lot of drugs and drank a lot of alcohol. After that incident it made me think of how bad drugs are and what they can do to a person. I think drugs are bad because they can cause brain damage, lung cancer, and memory loss.
Drugs can cause brain damage by interfering with the nerve cell that normally sends, receives, and processes information. When a drug enters the body it’s going through your system to give you that feeling of happiness. It makes you feel like you can’t get enough of it and that you want more. When a person starts doing drugs it’s really hard for some people to quit and if they can’t and continue to do it, it can cause really bad brain damage which makes your body weak but tells you it wants more making it worse.
Also, drugs such as cigarettes can cause lung cancer. They can cause that because smoking cigarettes can damage the lungs over the years you smoke. The tobacco in the cigarettes can attach to the cells in the lungs which can damage them. Any kind of drug can do this but cigarettes, cigars, pipes etc. can definitely cause lung cancer.
Finally, drugs can cause memory loss. They can do this by reducing the amount of oxygen that gets to your brain. People who smoke can barely remember people names and who they are. Some drugs can have some chemical affect to the brain which cause them to not remember anything in their past. Drugs can also cause you to get little sleep and make you wake up at weird times during the night which can cause anxiety and can lead you to not be able to concentrate.
In my conclusion, I have learned a lot about drugs and what it can do. During the week of D.A.R.E and from what our officer told us I have learned that you can’t have alcohol until your 21 years old, mixing

The brain is the control station of the body. It is in control of everything you do, it even is hard at work while you sleep. Just like any other control or command center, the many parts that make up the brain must work together as a team. When drugs come into the brain, they interrupt the work and change how the brain then performs its job. These alterations can lead to compulsive drug use. Physical changes within the brain are linked to chronic substance abuse having a major impact on the brains functioning and emotional disarrays. Drugs are chemicals, which access the brains communication system and interfere with the method nerve cells send, receive and process information. “Some drugs can change the brain in ways that last long after the person has stopped taking drugs, maybe even permanently. This is more likely when a drug is taken repeatedly” (NIDA, 2011,para 6). Some drugs can copycat a natural neurotransmitter sending abnormal messages through the brain. They can also causes nerve cells to discharge excessive amounts which can eventually cause confusion on the…
