In the D.A.R.E. program we learned many facts and a lot of information about keeping ourselves safe and healthy. We learned how to say “NO” to drugs, because it’s not just what you say; but instead, how you say it. When you say no to drugs you are saving yourself from many things like getting colds and upper respiratory problems, and cancer of mouth, throat, bladder, and kidney. We learned that nicotine is a powerful substance that causes addiction and if you take drugs it is hard to stop. We also learned that the only thing that should be going into your lungs is air and anything else is called abuse. We learned much information in the D.A.R.E. program.…
The D.A.R.E. Program was created to help youths say “no to drugs”. “Started in 1983 by the Los Angeles Police Department and the L.A. School Districts, DARE has quickly become the nation's standard anti-drug curriculum.”(Glass 1997) The D.A.R.E program represents an agreement between local schools and their local law enforcement officers. However, the D.A.R.E program on a national scale is ran by D.A.R.E America, which receives input from state and local communities on how they feel the D.A.R.E program should be working.(Gist 2001) “The primary goal of D.A.R.E. Program is to prevent substance abuse among schoolchildren and help them develop effective gang and violence resistance techniques.”(Gist…
I’m sure everyone has heard of this program. D.A.R.E stands for Drug abuse resistance education. I know in school I had to take this program I want to say in either fourth or fifth grade. This program was founded in California in 1983. In this program it helps to teach children to say no to drugs. It also teaches children that by telling an adult they can help save other children that aren’t strong enough to say no. I believe the D.A.R.E program is a very good one but they should also give like a refresher course once in middle school. I know that when I started hearing of people doing drugs. Another good program is Neighborhood watch. This program is where people from a neighborhood come together to take turns on watching their surrounding houses. A example of this would be say someone is going out of town they may have a neighbor watch the house by bringing in their mail, (depending on how well you know them) they could turn the lights on and off to make it look like someone is always there. The neighborhood watch also looks out for odd vehicles, or strange people in the area. I know in my communities we are very close, we watch each other’s houses as if they are our…
The Drug Abuse Resistance Education (D.A.R.E.) program is a police officer-led series of classroom lessons taught from Kindergarten through 12th grade (D.A.R.E.: Drug Abuse Resistance Education, 1996). The D.A.R.E. program also teaches children the skills needed to recognize and resist the pressures that may cause them to experiment with drugs or become involved in gang or violent activities. D.A.R.E. is a form of community policing which helps to open the lines of communication…
I feel that everybody should not do drugs. Everyone always have to make wise decisions about what you do with drugs and alcohol. As a participant in D.A.R.E., I will not participate in or associate myself with anyone that is involved in drugs. I will follow all five D.A.R.E. rules and remain a respectable…
Role models are very important when it comes to social learning because we are more likely to do what they do they do so we memorise what they do well and then we copy. This is because we look up to them and it can be very different from copying someone in the street. This is because we would rather imitate our role models because we may think they are the best in everything that they do. Personally my role model is Nelson Mandela because despite all the challenges that he faced through his life has been strong, passionate, worked hard and he stood to what he believed in no matter how much people wanted him dead. Another reason is because he has achieved a lot throughout his life, but unfortunately he’s passed away now even though this doesn’t change my mind. I want to be able to achieve similar things to him. For this reason I copy his behaviour when dealing with certain problems.…
The best type of role model is one that teaches a good life lesson. What’s part of a good life lesson? A good life lesson stays with you whole life. A good lesson affects their life in a way that changes in a good way. You also gain new characteristic from life lessons; an example is courage, bravery or confidences. “While many American children believe athletes motivate them to follow their dreams, they’re also mimicking the bad behavior of their sports heroes on the playing field, a new…
Another reason to not do drugs is, it is an expensive habit. Some may purchase drugs weeks or days at a time. Drug users could also end up stealing from family which breaks up a family even more. Excessive drug use leads to overdosing, which could lead to death.…
Being a role model is the most powerful form of education; we, the young developing adults, would be lost without it. A role model is a person that someone looks up to and wants to be like, either in the present or in the future. It can be anyone; a parent, family member, friend, or even someone off of a movie or book. The tremendous role models that I continue to learn from are my amazing mom, enlightened Coach Bird, and brilliant minded Sherlock Holmes.…
Drugs are something that are only done by choice. Some may say that people who do drugs are putting others in harm, but they are actually only putting themselves in harm. If someone wants to put themselves in a situation that may be harmful, it is their choice. For example, almost everyone gets into a motor vehicle at least once a day. Every year 33,700 people die from car crashes in the United States. Only 14,800 die from opioid overdose. If such…
Teens drop out of school after being addicted to the use of drugs. A program like DARE was given to students in middle school, but it is important for teens to also be aware of the risk in high school. If students are offered drugs and they know the consequences they are more likely to refuse rather than try using drugs. When teens use drugs it’s likely for family and health issues to occur. When students are taught about the risk they can get good grades and achieve their…
The drug talk in a school book may give the kids the idea that drug are ok. The negative may go in their heads and it will show through their…
D.A.R.E is a program designed to assist young people in living a drug, alcohol, and crime free life. This program not only benefits the participants but the community as a whole. Young people who are able to educate themselves and avoid participating in criminal activities become productive law abiding adults. Drug abuse and other criminal activity lead to death, disaster, and disease for the abuser and the members of the community. The D.A.R.E program prevents drug abuse, teenage pregnancies, gang membership, and brings the community together to work towards a crime free…
Reading this text I have realized that drugs can and will have a big effect on a persons life mentally physically and spiritually. It is actually depressing to see what drugs do to peaople and their lives . Some people loose hope in their selves . Some people loose family and friends . There is always a reason behind any ones actions .people do take drugs because they are hiding something or because something is hiding from them .…
