Computer Recycling
What are you doing with that old computer of yours? Are you recycling that computer? There are different ways to recycle your computer. Here are a few things you can do to make sure your computer is going to the right place for recycling. If your computer is still in working order, you can donate it to a daycare, church, private school, grandparents, your own children, or a senior center. If the computer is not in working order, there are businesses, which will dispose of it for you. You may think you’re disposing of it properly, but what you don’t know is that some recycling companies are taking our computers and sending them overseas to third world countries, this is called e-waste. If you don’t want this to happen, you can go to The Basil Action Network (BAN), a company that is online and they will have a list of approved recycling centers for all your electronic equipment. “BAN is the world’s only organized group that is focused on confronting global injustice of toxic trade, and its impact on the environment.”
When I looked further into what the government is doing about e-waste, I found that the Environmental Protection Agency, (EPA) just announced on 08/17/2010 that e-waste was one of the United States top six newly announced global priorities. What does that mean? “The EPA is trying to pass legislation, banning the export of e-waste. The EPA also wants to set a date for the computer manufactures to make computers non-toxic.” I believe the future of computers will be green.
