Prohibition notice is issued an employer there is considered to be a serious risk of injury to the employees and visitors from fire on the premises, the fire authority can serve a Prohibition Notice on the occupier requiring that remedial work be carried out in the interests of fire safety or, alternatively, have the premises closed down
Where the enforcing authority is of option, as of respects the carrying out of a prescribed process under an authorization, that to continue to carry it out or to do in a particular manner involves an imminent risk of serious pollution of the environment, the authority shall serve a prohibition notice on the person carrying out the process

2-P2. What does the acronym PUWER stand for? On whom does it primarily apply responsibilities? List 3 of the major responsibilities that are applied under PUWER.
The abbreviation of PUWER stands for Provision and Use of Work Equipment Regulations. It applies responsibilities primary employers. It also applies to all employers or self-employed people who provide equipment that is used for work anyone who has control of the equipment used for work. If an employer permits an employee to use he’s/hers own equipment then the equipment that they use must also be covered by PUWER. Mostly all equipment which is used by an employee a work place should be covered;
e.g.
Hammers
Knives
Drilling machines
Power presses photocopiers Lifting equipment
Circular saws
Motor vehicles
Responsibilities that are applied under PUWER
1. Employers have to make sure that maintenance is carried out by a competent person
2. Employers have to ensure that they maintain the plant and equipment at fixed intervals
3. Employers must have a procedure that allows employees to report damaged or faulty equipment.

A competent person is somebody who has adequate training and experience or knowledge and other qualities that enable them to aid someone correctly. The level of a competence needed will depend on the intricacy of the circumstance and the type of help needed

1. Fixed (guards cannot be removed without tools or specialist equipment)
2. Interlocked (access to machine danger zone are only possible when they are at rest. Machine will not start until guards are reinstated)
3. Automatic (either: recedes as the work piece approaches or acts as a rescue device in event of inadvertent approach
4. Trip (proximity motion or PIR switches that stop a machine in event of inadvertent approach)

7-P2. Under PUWER and the Electricity at Work regulations, define and explain what is PAT and how often is it required?
PAT is Portable Appliance Testing
Portable appliance testing (PAT) is the term used to describe the examination of electrical appliances and equipment to ensure that they are safe to use. Most electrical safety defects can be found by visual examination but some types of defect can only be found by testing.
The frequency of inspection and testing depends upon of the type of equipment and the environment it is used in. Example a computer that in an office that is used once every 6 months could be examined once every year.

ISOLATION:
An electrical separation in the middle of areas of an integrated circuit
EARTHING: process of electricity safety whereby metal parts of electrical supplies are joined to a common ground point so that surplus current can be carried away and cause the fuse to blow in case of a fault
REDUCED LOW VOLTAGE: A term used when voltage has been stepped down to reduce the risk of injury when using electrical equipment is at it limit the supply voltage to the lowest needed to get the work done
OVERCURRENT PROTECTION: a form of control measure put in a circuit to prevent damage to a device that could be caused from a result of excessive current flowing through the circuit. There are different types of control measure components inserted in a circuit to enable are e.g. circuit breaker fuses etc.
