When the film industry first started in the US there were a lot of concerns about how movies especially with sound and color could manipulate the population. And the commercials actually did until it was forbidden, because they slide a picture of the product they were selling between the normal 20 pictures per second. What the eye would recognize and send an impulse to the brain what makes you think of that product.
For me this is a proof how median can control our lives. And that it already does more than we think.
There is although a study in the US that movies can lend people to smoke more. Especially all the old movies were the main figure is smoking from the beginning to the end. The study says that we tend to smoke more after we saw a movie is because the persons in the movies who are smoking normally have a big self-confidence the people want to be like them. In the study, 6,522 U.S. adolescents aged 10-14 were asked to identify films they had seen from a list of 50 randomly selected titles out of a database of films released in the U.S. from 1998 - 2000. Researchers found examples of movie smoking in 74 percent of the 532 movies in the database. Based on the movies each participant had seen and the amount of smoking in each movie, the adolescents were split into four levels of exposure to movie smoking. It is although shown in a study that after looking at 534 *box office hits* that 3 out of 4 (75%) had 3.850 with smoke.
But I think that the influence is not that easy as saying that when you see a see a violent video or play a shooting game you don’t lose reality and start to kill people because you lost any connection to reality.
I think that violent movies can fjord violent but they are not the trigger. There has to be some force readiness before what the constant watching of violent movies only
