WHAT IS MANAGEMENT? Management is basically concerned with the performance of planning, organizing, directing, co-ordinating and controlling which in fact are its main functions. Management is also regarded as the art of getting things done through others. It is not possible for any individual to do all the work himself. The work is always shard with others. A manager who is unable to make his subordinates work cannot be a successful manager.

FUNCTIONS OF MANAGEMENT:
The major functions of management are: * Planning * Organizing * Directing * Controlling
Planning:
The first and the foremost function of management is planning. Planning is deciding in advance what should be done in future. It helps to work in a systematic manner. With proper planning of the activities of the enterprise, it is possible to make an optimum use of the available resources. Planning focuses on the objectives of the business.
Planning eliminates the tendency to work at random. It determines the priorities of the business. Plans may be of two types: * Single use plans * Repeated use plans
Organizing:
Organizing is the process of bringing together the necessary resources for the accomplishment of the objectives of the enterprise. Men, machines, materials and money are the resources necessary for any organization. Organizing is also concerned with the grouping of the activities of the enterprise into various types namely production, marketing and so on.
Directing:
The manager has to supervise the work done by the employees. He must
