It’s about sharing information, thoughts ideas and emotions between people through speaking, writing, body language, emotions and signs. The objective is to inform and educate a person on different perspectives, beliefs and desires in interpersonal and mass communications. Communication is the art of being understood and of understanding others. Communication can occur via various processes and methods, and depending on the channel used and the style, there can be various types.
Effective communication is an on-going process with clear purpose and objectives when expressing a message. Effective communication involves verbal and non-verbal interaction. Both of these communication methods can be expressed through skills such as tone of voice; pace of voice; eye contact; body language – posture; facial expression; the use of touch; proximity; clarifying – repetition; questioning. It’s a conversation in which no one gets confused by the other person's meaning. Once the message is received, the recipient then expresses a message back to the sender. This exchange continues until the dialogue is complete. Being an effective communicator requires the person to be open minded in respecting other people's thoughts and opinions in avoiding passing judgement on what that person is saying. Active listening is also another form of being an effective communicator as it allows you to increase your understanding of that person's thoughts and feelings.
