Over periods of time, many movie producers have tried to copy the exact details of the literacy text Les Miserables. Some audiences have enjoyed the movie versions, and some have enjoyed the literacy text. Overall the movie cannot compare to the amazing details of the text. Some may try to make the movie look and sound unique and remain in the boundaries of the book, but most times the literacy text takes the audience’s attention over the movie. The movie version laves out many descriptive details that just have to be included or else it does not stand a chance against the literacy text in comparison. Although there are differences and similarities between the video clip and the literacy text, it is very important to recognize comparing and contrasting the two, to understand the point of Les Miserables.
In addition to the reasons that have been stated in the previous paragraph most similarities are found in the character himself, Jean Valjean. For instance Jean Valjean in the text is a criminal and is also a criminal in the movie as well. In the movie clip it states that Jean Valjean is a criminal and was punished for stealing a loaf of bread to feed his sister’s family. In the book it also states that Jean Valjean stole a loaf of bread and was punished for his actions by being sentenced to what first started out as a five year trial and was lengthened by Valjean himself for trying to escape more than once. Now in the movie clip, there is no scene where the criminal admits why he’s sentenced for so many more years. But in the book it states that he had tried to escape once, got caught, another time, caught again he was, another time, and he found himself caught again. Therefore Jean Valjean was sentenced to nineteen years in the galleys. Although in the movie it does not include the details of why Valjean remained in the galleys for so long. The similarity of Jean Valjean’s criminal story is that he admits he is a criminal. The difference
