L'Arc De Triomphe

During this time, the France was fighting against Russia, Austria, and Great Britain in the war of the Third Coalition. The French army, led By Napoleon Bonaparte had won the war fortunately. So, a very pleased Napoleon the first then ordered the creation of L'arc de triomphe. He told his soldiers, "You will return home through archs of triumph."
Larc de trioupmhe was built by Jean Chalgrin and Jean Nicolas Huyot who took over the project after his death. It took a really long time to build, and the money involved was just whoa. Construction began in 1806. It ultimately took 30 years and 9 to 10 million francs to build. Which was a lot of money at the time.
So, Larc de trioumphe is located on la Place Charles de Gaulle or Place de l'etoile, in Paris. This is a really cool place for a monument because la Place Charles de de Gaulle is an intersection of 12 road, one of them being Champs Elysees, "which is also known as the most beautiful avenue in the world.
Contrary to popular belief, Larc de triomphe is actually really big. 50 metres (164 ft) in height, 45 m (148 ft) wide and 22 m (72 ft) deep. It is the largest triuphal arch in the world. Well, it was, until 1982 when North Korea deliberately built a larger one.
Inside larc tde triomphe are many beautiful reliefs, statues, and engravings mostly depicting French battles. There are spiral staircases as well. The view from the top is fantasitic, you can see La Defense, le

A group led by writers Guy de Maupassant and Alexandre Dumas and architect Charles Garnier, lodged an official complaint about the tower calling it, “a gigantic factory chimney whose form will disfigure the architectural harmony of the city” (“Origins and Construction of the Eiffel Tower”). Others, such as painter Paul Gauguin, disagreed and admired the tower’s modernity. Gauguin claimed the, “exhibition represents the triumph of iron, not only regarding machines but also architecture,” (Benton 160). The Eiffel Tower with its modern iron design would become a symbol for avant-gardism and was the subject of many artworks including paintings, woodcuts, and photographs. “A&P’ by John Updike is a very comical short story. When I read this story for the first time I laughed the whole time but I also felt bad for Sammy towards the end. Sammy says “ I said I quit” Sammy ended up quitting his job just because he thought that the three girls were being treated very unfairly. It was hilarious when Sammy quit his job then he went to the parking lot to find the girls but they were not there. Sammy believed that the store manager Lengel wasn’t treating the three girls fairly so he stood up for what he believed in and quit his job. Sammy didn’t think that Lengel was being reasonable while talking to the girls. Queenie says “we weren’t doing any shopping. We just came in for one thing” (pg. 203) Then Lengel replies…

When memorializing an event or person by creating a monument a group or agency should consider the monument’s historical significance, make it extraordinary and authoritative, and put it in a proper place. If those three things are completed properly then the monument will most likely be successful.…

A careful inspection of the buildings to the right will reveal the structure of Notre Dame, a sign of the King’s power, which now triumphantly flies the tricolored flag. When the tricolor was hoisted up the north tower of the famed Cathedral on the morning of July the 28th, it roused the Parisians who had watched the white, royal flag fly for the preceding fifteen…
