Lab 6 Worksheet: Blood Pressure

Student instructions: Follow the step-by-step instructions for this exercise found on the worksheet below and in the virtual lab and record your answers in the spaces below. Submit this completed document by the assignment due date found in the Syllabus.

Directions 1. Open the Virtual Lab titled “Blood Pressure”.

2. Read the background information found under the “Question” area first, and then continue on to reading the “Procedure” information posted there as well.

3. At this point, you are ready to begin the lab exercise. Click on the “Information” button on the blood pressure testing room area and read through the information presented. Click on the “Animation” button then “Begin” to watch the animation on sphygmomanometry.

4. If you come upon terms that are unfamiliar to you, please refer to your textbook for further explanation or search the word here: http://encarta.msn.com/encnet/features/dictionary/dictionaryhome.aspx

5. When you are ready, please select the gender and age range of the first group of patients you would like to test and select “Measure Blood Pressure”.

6. Complete the exercise as directed, recording any data or information needed in your Data Table below.

7. When you are finished, please answer all of the questions found at the end of the worksheet.

Procedure 1. Click information to read about blood pressure.

2. Answer Lab Questions 11-13 below.

3. To start the experiment, select a gender by clicking and holding down the arrow under gender.

4. Select an age range to test by clicking and holding down the arrow under age range.

5. Ten patients will appear with sphygmomanometers. Click the “Measure Blood Pressure” button to take their blood pressures.
