“The Rime of Ancient Mariner” was the most powerful romantic poem by Samuel Taylor Coleridge. Samuel Taylor Coleridge, a leader of the British Romantic movement, was born on October 21, 1772. He was a most romantic England poet who wrote his poems in romantism period. This essay will discuss the story which Ancient Mariner told the wedding guest and some of the moral implications through the study of “The Rime of Ancient Mariner’’.

The story which the Ancient Mariner told the wedding guest was a story about a disastrous journey he took. The Wedding Guest really wants to go party, but he can't pry himself away from this grizzled old mariner. The Mariner begins his story. They left port, and the ship sailed down near Antarctica to get away from a bad storm, but then they get caught in a dangerous, foggy ice field. An albatross shows up to steer them through the fog and provide good winds, but then the Mariner decides to shoot it and soon the sailors lose their wind, and it gets really hot. They run out of water, and everyone blames the Mariner. The ship seems to be haunted by a bad spirit, and weird stuff starts appearing, like slimy creatures that walk on the ocean. The Mariner's crewmates decide to hang the dead albatross around his neck to remind him of his mistake.

Moreover, everyone is literally dying of thirst. The Mariner sees another ship's sail at a distance. He wants to yell out, but his mouth is too dry, so he sucks some of his own blood to moisten his lips. He's like, "A ship! We're saved." Sadly, the ship is a ghost ship steered by two spirits, Death and Life-in-Death, who have to be the last people you'd want to meet on a journey. Everyone on the Mariner's ship dies. He was on a boat with a lot of dead bodies, surrounded by an ocean full of slimy things. Worse, these slimy things are nasty water snakes. But the Mariner escapes his curse by unconsciously blessing the hideous snakes, and the albatross drops off his neck into the ocean.

In the 2004 release, by Touchstone Pictures, "The Alamo" takes a famous story told throughout time and recreates it on the screen once again. This time was it really any better than the other releases? Maybe the flashy effects and better film quality could interest you in this movie but the real question is how valid is it. To the average person this story looks as if they have recreated it perfectly, but to a historian it might not look so genuine. Although this movie does depict many things with absolute efficiency some things are left out. Almost completely ignored in this movie are important instances in history such as the cowardly James Fannin and the battle at Goliad. This is an important part of the story that has been left out. It could have been nice to know what happened to the one person who could have helped but refused to due to his own growing situation. Also in the movie James Bowie is portrayed as a mildly sick person whereas in real life he deathly ill. He was known to have typhoid fever and a bad case at that. Beyond the fallacies in this movie there were many great things that were put to the screen. One of the best in my opinion is the removal of the "line" that was drawn in the dirt by Travis. According to much research the line was actually a story drawn up years later to help signify the sacrifices these men had made. They correctly portrayed how the men were outnumbered in this fight and the effort and courage that was put forth in this battle to defend the Alamo. The last and most controversial issue in the movie is how did David Crockett really die? In this movie they give him the courageous death that he was thought to have. Again researching this subject I found that many believe that Crockett surrendered and was later tortured and assassinated with a few other men. Whether this is what happened or not this was a movie that for the most part had everything right. It was a pretty good…

The narrator immersed himself in the ocean to escape from his past; he is still dealing with the death of his son and guilt that he was one that killed his own flesh and blood. While in the ocean the narrator briefly describes his swimming technique, he states that he enjoys the feeling of swimming harder underneath the current. He pushes himself harder in the ocean to the point he grasp the concept that in just a matter of seconds a body can easily die as live. Swimming in the ocean with the narrator were jellyfishes and a whale shark. The significant about the whale shark, is it was once alive in the ocean swimming freely than suddenly captured and killed. I believe that the narrator saw as a representation of his son, because similar to…

This story was truly a conflict between the men and the sea. All of the men worked together to try to conquer the sea. For instance when the men were rowing the oilier and the correspondent saw a man walking on the beach. They soon began to realize that this man on shore was a tourist and was just standing there watching them drown at sea. As the men kept rowing through the waves to get to the shore the oilier jumped out and started swimming. In his attempts to swim to the shore a strong current took him and he drowned there at sea. The other men made it to the shore and lived. To really show the intensity of the storm that the men had to go through the author used many more used of figurative language.…

In the poem, the mariner and the crew were given different punishments. The 200 crewmen were killed, but the mariner was left to live with life in death. This was a very just outcome because everybody received the punishment that they deserved. It states on page 69, “Four times fifty living men/(And I heard nor sigh nor groan)/With heavy thump, a lifeless lump” (Lines 74-76). The crew suffered a less severe punishment with an instant death compared to the mariner who committed a great sin by killing the albatross. It also states on page 69, “And every soul, it passed me by/Like the whizz of my crossbow” (Lines 80-81). The mariner blamed himself for the misfortune that he brought upon his crew and himself. For his punishment, he had to live…

-> The next literary technique used is irony. The lines "Over the mirrors meant To glass the opulent the sea-worm crawls-grotesque, slimed, dumb, indifferent," (stanza III) shows that the glamorous things were now nothing more than a sea floor for the worms. Also all the jewels that were present on the ship, being worn by first-class passengers were now sitting at the bottom of the ocean floor. The usage of irony represents the loss of the ship, instead of the loss of life. These lines are indicative of the author's attitude towards what the ship stood for. He didn't want to talk about the tragedy with all the lives lost, instead he…

The men find it difficult to communicate with one another, since they are unwilling to sound foolishly optimistic, but also are unhappy to make dire predictions. The captain assures them that they will reach the shore eventually. Seagulls fly close to the boat, “uncanny and sinister in their unblinking scrutiny, and the men hooted angrily at them, telling them to be gone” (Crane 60). One bird lurks very closely, and the captain must be careful to wave it away gently for fear of disturbing the dinghy’s precarious position. In the far distance, the men finally glimpse the lighthouse.…
