Reflection Paper
By Nina Bianca Cadena As the summer class started last April 21st, I thought that the class will be so boring because of the 3 hour class per subject. And the fact that it is just a short term class, like it was just a month; I couldn’t imagine how they will make it more advance for us to finish the designated topics and deadlines. And as expected for this another kind of English subject, which is the English 101 I prepared myself already for possible long essays and paper works, it is because we were told by the head of English department that in this stage of English 101 class, more on essays and words are about to happen, which we are experiencing right now. In addition to our syllabus, more of the oral and reporting which is usual in the class will take place. The lessons I learned from my English summer class are not that quite easy to analyze but with the help of our professor, it is more easy to understand because he taught very clearly. The APA style syllabus which is about the avoidance of plagiarism help me to know its limitations and rules that I should follow for us to know the limit of exceeding in the line. Before, in other subjects when we are task to do some home works and there should be acknowledgements we just copies the

The writing homework took time, and several ideas and sometimes google searches to make it a good essay I can score marks on, but in return, I learned skills and techniques…

According to Lowe & Dougherty (2014), intentional plagiarism typically stems from fear of failure, poor planning/time management skills, or viewing the course material and the consequences of cheating as unimportant. Unintentional plagiarism is usually caused by a lack of understanding the use of proper citations when attempting to integrate ideas. The best way to avoid plagiarism is to learn the appropriate use of citations and the proper format for references. Understanding the difference between using someone else’s words in a direct quote and paraphrasing is important, as each method requires the information to be cited differently. Aside from learning the appropriate use of citations and references, it is necessary to understand the importance of course materials and the seriousness of the consequences for cheating. Learning proper time management skills will also help students to remain vigilant when citing sources used to support the information being…

It is easy to cram information just for test time but since we are actually writing how we feel on the subject matter, we have no choice but to have a complete and thorough understanding of the material. The importance of grasping this APA style concept and implementing it into our coursework is imperative. First and foremost we should always give credit to the source and offer them the recognition they deserve. Bethel frowns upon any form of plagiarism and can ultimately lead to the student being removed from the program. When writing a research paper, there are two main patterns that we can choose. The first style, MLA (Modern Language Association), is widely used in conducting papers and citing sources within the humanities range and it should be double-spaced. When paraphrasing, quoting or summarizing, MLA requires citation of the author’s last name, the source’s title, and the page number. In addition to that, the paper must include one’s own name, the instructor’s name, and course title with the date all inserted in the upper left hand corner. However, in general, APA (American Psychological Association) style is used mostly in natural sciences, and it includes title page, abstract, main body and references. Unlike the MLA style, APA emphasizes on the date of publication by writing it near the beginning of the entry. Also APA style usually uses tables and graph to support the content and it capitalizes the names of journals and magazines but not necessary all words in the books and articles.…

It is important to learn and utilize proper APA formatting of in-text citations and references so you will not commit plagiarism. Plagiarism is when you take what someone else said and use it like it is yours. The in-text citation and references will tell the reader where you found the information you are using. At my previous school, I was found guilty of plagiarism for a six-word sentence. If you paraphrase or take a direct quote, you have to tell where you received the information from. I received an automatic failing grade for the assignment and was not allowed to make up the assignment. Understanding citations and references will be vital for you in your future classes.…
