Radioisotopes
Definition of an isotope: An isotope is an Atom with the same number of protons, but differing numbers of neutrons. Isotopes are different forms of a single element. Smoke Detectors
I) Americium-241 emits alpha particles.
II)The alpha particles emitted by the Am-241 collide with the oxygen and nitrogen in air in the detector's ionisation chamber to produce charged particles (ions).
When smoke enters the chamber, the smoke particles attach to the charged ions, neutralizing them and stopping the alpha particles.
This causes the number of ions present – and therefore the electric current – to fall, which sets off an alarm.
III) This type of smoke detector is more common because it is inexpensive and better at detecting the smaller amounts of smoke produced by flaming fires.

Tracers
I) Gamma ray.
II) Radioactive isotope, usually injected into the patients’ bloodstream for the purpose of imaging some part of the body. The radiographer puts a detector around the body to detect any gamma rays or beta particles that pass out of the patient's body.
Nuclear radiation can damage cells. To avoid possible harm to the patient, it is important that medical tracers do not stay active in the body for long periods.
III) The radioisotopes used have short half-lives so that they are quickly eliminated from the body, the radiation doses in such procedures are very low and the risks have been carefully examined.

Reality TV! Even the word beings every negative image thought imaginable come racing to my mind. Normally I wouldn’t get so worked up about something as insignificant as TV shows, but reality TV has proven to be the exception. I don’t just hate reality TV I loathe it. Reality TV is just dumb, despicable and disgusting.

I think it’s odd that these shows are called “reality television” when they are so far detached from reality. This brings me to my next point how is becoming the next pop idol or living in a jungle reality? It may be

    * The battery applies a voltage to the plates, charging one plate positive and the other plate negative. Alpha particles constantly released by the americium knock electrons off of the atoms in the air, ionizing the oxygen and nitrogen atoms in the chamber. The positively-charged oxygen and nitrogen atoms are attracted to the negative plate and the electrons are attracted to the positive plate, generating a small, continuous electric current.…

Radioisotopes allow treatment and diagnosis of medical illnesses without the cost and trauma of open surgery (which carries risks like infection, accidents, and long recovery periods). The use of Tc-99m produces hot-spot images, which reveal early signs of disease and map how organs are functioning. The low energy gamma radiation it emits, the small dose in which it's injected and it a short half-life (6hours), minimises damage to tissues. The patient's total exposure to radiation is less than in an X-ray. So far, there have been no reported side effects.…

It seems that almost every TV channels has their own reality TV show. It’s crazy what they do on those shows, most of the episodes on Jersey Shore the cast drinks so much that they black out or Chef Ramsey cusses out one of the contestant’s family because they didn’t cook the fish properly. The negative aspects exceed the positive one vastly. According to Google the definition of a reality TV show is “a genre of television programming that presents purportedly unscripted dramatic or humorous situations” (Google). The truth is that most of these shows are rehearsed and scripted which makes it even worse because we should know that its not actually reality TV it’s more like unreality TV These shows are well known for harmfully influencing our behaviour, our minds and give us a shallow prospective on life. It’s outrageous how unreal these shows are, how they lower society’s values and how it has such a huge impact on us. Shows that portray any kind of extreme negative behaviour should not be allowed on TV. Instead people should watch educational shows or game shows.…

Atom-derived radiation is called iodizing radiation because it can produce charged particles (ions) in matter. Ionizing radiation is produced by unstable atoms. Unstable atoms differ from stable atoms because they have an excess of energy or mass or both. Unstable atoms are said to be radioactive. To reach stability, these atoms give off, or emit, the excess energy or mass.…

Advocates of reality shows say that these shows present true emotions and reactions of the participants in various situations and therefore, the audience connects with them. But in fact it is not so . The fact is that these are pre scripted, edited and manipulated to create sensational stuff. Mostly these shows have a bunch of young , good looking self publicists who are placed in unnatural situations , such as Big Boss house and Splitsvilla and then are provoked into behaving oddly. Only their most dramatic parts are shown on tv to create sensationalism.…
