Religious diversity has contributed to the " betterment" of Australian society. The 4 main religions, Christianity, Buddhism, Islam and Judaism- teach peaceful message and encourage followers to do good works and help those in need. Because Australia is a multicultural country and is from many different cultures it also has great religious diversity.
Religious diversity Buddhism is a way of life. It is based on the teachings of a man who lived in India about 2500 years ago. He was called the Buddha. Most Buddhist come from the Far East, but many Westerners are now interested in Buddhism. Buddhism does not set down rules which everyone must obey.
The Five Precepts-:
1. I will not take life- that means not killing people, animals too- many Buddhist are vegetarian-, and the Earth! It means not destroying nature. The Positive side of this is: I will try to be generous and willing to share.
2. I will not take what is not given- which means not stealing, not trying to get more than my fair share and not trying to grab at wealth or power of fame at the expense of others. The positive side of this is: I will try to be generous and willing to share.
3. I will not be greedy- not having affairs. The positive side of this is: I will act responsibly.
4. I will not say what is not true- not deliberately lying, not trying to give the wrong impression, not even being dishonest with yourself. The positive side of this is: I will try to be truthful in everything I say.
5. I will not cloud my mind with alcohol or drugs- not getting drunk, not doing anything that clouds your mind and takes you over. This might include things like being hooked on arcade games. The positive side of this is: I will try to keep my mind clear. I will try to
