Maximum wage
According to the News internationalist Magazine, it seems evident that a maximum wage is needed to complement the minimum wage due to multiple reasons. One of which is the need for greater equality.
Rising wage differences are one of the key drivers of inequality. By putting a plug on both ends of the pay scale , we help to ensure seemingly decent living standards for all people, and avoid the negative consequences of living in an unequal society.
Another reason for which this is debated for, is that there is a need to tame executive pay. Some executives receive extremely high levels of pay, in which they are encouraged to take risky behaviors and lead to the banking crisis and the overall hindering of a company's productivity.
Economists also agree on the fact that it is important to tackle over-consumption and debt. Human beings constantly equate themselves with others. They feel obliged to take on higher levels of debt and overconsume to compensate for being in an era of high inequality, which is harmful for the planets resources.
Other economists argue that a maximum wage would limit productivity. Those who are working would lose motive and incentive to keep producing quality work once they reach the cap wage. Those who are able to produce or earn alot more through legal means should not be limited.
In conclusion, it has been observed that once people earn an annual wage of over $80,000 dollars their well being grows little. Most of the money becomes insignificant, and setting limits will not affect those who are already well-off. Yet, on the other hand, it affects the overall productivity of the economy, and the amount of quality work being handled consistently.

The minimum wage last was raised in 2009 when it went up form $6.55 an hour to $7.25 and it has not changed yet even though many other programs have adjusted to the inflation. Things such as the poverty line, food stamp eligibility and social security have been adjusted accordingly to the changing inflation rates, but the wage rate has not. One of the highest rate for the minimum wage was in 1968 at $10.55. Since then the per person consumption of goods has risen 137% the total economic output has risen 109% and the total income has risen 100% (Babones). This means that based on consumption growth the minimum wage should be $25.05 to represent the share of the country’s total consumption and the minimum wage should be $22.08 based on national income growth. What that shows it that the $7.25 minimum wage does not accurately correlate to the rise of the consumption of goods and shows that it isn’t the true minimum wage. The minimum wage was not adjusted to inflation even though the typical worker today is almost twice as productive as in 1968.     Yes, I do believe that there is a maximum rate of pay for every job in the organization. A job should have its maximum pay rate depending on many factors. In most cases jobs that do not require high level of education are the jobs that do not lead to a live long career. In this case, there is a limit of value that a receptionist like Beth Smithers could bring to the company. It wouldn’t make much financial sense to pay a receptionist equal to an operations manager.
