Introduction
In this paper we will be working with plants and the Scientific Methods. My first experiment with the plants will be to find out why plants tend to lean toward a window. For my second experiment, I will be trying to discover if the Topsy Turvy grows better tomato plants. These experiments will be conducted using the scientific method. The scientific method is a way to ask and answer scientific questions by making observations and doing experiments. “The steps of the scientific method are to ask a question, construct a hypothesis, test your experiment, analyze the results, and draw a conclusion. It is important for your experiment to be a fair test. A "fair test" occurs when you change only one factor and keep all other conditions the same.” (Science Buddies, 2010) I will begin with experiment number one, discovering why plants tend to lean toward a window.
Experiment Number 1
Observation: Have you ever noticed if you place a plant near a window, that after a while, the plant grows or leans toward the window?
Question: Have you ever wondered why the plant grows toward the window?
Hypothesis: If plants tend to lean toward a window could it be because plants require light, which comes through the window, to make their food?
Experiment: I take three plants and grow them with a light to the left of them and I take three more plants and grow them with a light to the right of them.
Results: The three plants that have been growing with the light on the left leaned toward the left as if they were reaching for the light. The three plants that have been growing with the light on the right did lean toward the right.
Conclusion: My hypothesis has been proven. The three plants growing with the light on the left did lean to the left as I have predicted. The three plants that have been growing with the light on the right did lean toward the right. This can only mean that the reason
