Part 1- Scenario 2
Katherine wants to investigate if the time of day a plant is watered affects the growth of the plant. She hypothesizes that a plant watered in the morning will grow faster than a plant watered at other times of the day.

1) Identify the specific independent and dependent variables that will be involved in an experiment to test this hypothesis. Independent variables: The time of day the plants were watered (examples include: sunrise, noon, sunset) Dependent variables: The resulting height of each plant

2) List at least five variables that should be controlled during the experiment. For each variable identified, give a specific suggestion for how it can be controlled during the experiment.
1) The amount of light the plants receive. This can be controlled by placing each pot on the same table, ensuring they receive the same amount of sunlight.
2) The amount of potting soil in the pots. This can be controlled by measuring an equal amount of soil for each pot.
3) The amount of seeds the pots contain. This can be controlled by placing an equal amount of seeds in each pot. For example, three seeds placed in each pot.
4) The amount of water the plants receive. This can be controlled by measuring a precise amount of water, using a tool such as a beaker, ensuring that each plant gets the same amount of water every day.
5) The size of the pots. This can be controlled by using identical pots for each plant.

Part 2
Purpose: Melatonin is a hormone made by the pineal gland, a small gland in the brain. Melatonin helps control your sleep and wake cycles. If one has difficulty sleeping, they can purchase melatonin as a natural supplement from a drug store. The question I am going to attempt to answer is: Is melatonin effective in helping people sleep? Research: I would research more about the supplement melatonin and the average amount needed to produce effective results. Two practical resources I could use are my psychiatrist as well as my

    2. Five variables that should be controlled during the experiment is the amount of sunlight, room temperature, amount of water, the time of day the plant is watered and the certain type of plant. To make sure the plants get the same amount of sunlight, make sure to put them both in the same spot so that one plant doesn’t get more sunlight than the other. To make sure they both stay in the same room temperature, put them both in the same room. With the amount of water come up with a measurement, and then make sure you give both plants that amount. Pick out a time of day for the plants to get watered make sure you water one earlier than the other since it is part of your hypothesis that they grow faster when watered in the morning. Finally, make sure that…

I chose this topic for my experiment, because my mother has always been very interested in taking care of flowers and growing them form seeds to adults. We have many different plants in our home and every one of them has different watering and fertilizer instructions, which need to be followed in order to make the plant grow and develop as safely as possible. Every plant has unique features and appearance, which makes them intriguing. Even the individuals from one specific species can differ in size and height. Because the characteristics of every plant are unique and exceptional, they are very interesting topic to investigate. My mother’s excitement for plants also had an impact on my interest on this fascinating topic and because of this plant biology became one of the most interesting areas in biology and finally became the topic of my biology internal assessment.…

All organisms sense and interact with their environment. This is particularly true of plants. Plant survival and growth is critically influenced by abiotic factors including water, wind, and light. But most importantantly (in our experiment) light as it physical alters temperature which directly affects photosynthesis, respiration, transpiration - loss of water and absorption of water and nutrients. The rate of these processes increases with an increase in temperature responses is different with different crops.…

Greenhouses allow for greater control over the growing environment of plants. Depending upon the technical specification of a greenhouse, key factors which may be controlled include temperature, levels of light and shade, irrigation, fertilizer application, and atmospheric humidity. Greenhouses may be used to overcome shortcomings in the growing qualities of a piece of land, such as a short growing season or poor light levels, and they can thereby improve food production in marginal environments.…
