Based on the Stephen King novel “Rita Hayworth and the Shawshank Redemption”. Tim Robbins stars as Andy Dufresne, a successful young banker who is sentenced to life imprisonment for the murder of his wife and her lover. Andy is sent to Shawshank prison, place where brutality from both guards and other prisoners is common. Andy makes friends with Red (Morgan Freeman), a lifer who has already spent many years inside. Red smuggles items into the prison for the other prisoners. Red soon discovers that Andy is a most unusual prisoner, although at first it seems to do him little good. He starts to get both other prisoners and guards on his side when he offers to help one of the most notorious guards with a tax problem in exchange for bottles of chilled beer for everyone in his work party. From then on, Andy always seems to be working on one thing or another. He improves the prison’s tiny library, and helps those prisoners who want to study. He also handles the guards’ tax returns, and even helps the swindling Warden (Bob Gunton). I believe that Morgan freeman plays the part of Ellis Redding or “Red” very well. He makes you feel what you need to feel at different parts of the movie. Freeman, makes you think of what it is like to be in jail for many years. He doesn’t down play what really goes on. Also he is a very reliably narrator because he tells it like it is.
Tim Robbins plays the part of Andy Dufresne. Tim makes you believe that any is innocent and that he tells the truth on the stand. He makes you believe that not all of man are lying human beings. And by the end of the movie you are cheering for him to get free and see Red again.
There are some very cheesy parts in the movie. The time when Andy gets in to the sewer and get free. He uses a rock to break open the sewer pipe and when you see him look through the pipe it is a perfect circle. Really could anyone do that in real life? No I
