Anderson feels the reason violent crimes exist in the inner city stems from the type of life experienced by those living in the ghetto. They are faced with very few jobs that pay enough to live on, racial stigmas, as well as the effects of drug use and trafficking. They end up feeling alienated and unable to see any hope for the future, which can, and does, lead to aggressive behavior.

I believe that white collar crime is harmful. Just the word crime, acknowledges wrong doing, which necessitates that there is harm of some sort. Of course, white crimes do not have the physical pain and trauma that a victim would suffer from a violent crime, but there can be substantial harm inflicted. The potential for financial ruin of someone who is a victim of a white collar crime could be devastating.
Page 354 There are a few public policies that I would suggest to help families affected by incarceration. First I would suggest some type of outreach program for inner city youth to teach them skills, mentor them and keep them off the streets so that perhaps they won’t grow up and turn to crime. I would implement an organization for mothers who are now single and have no way of providing for their children. This would be a place they could go to find job training, receive counseling and also offer donated food, clothing and other items that she and her children need. Along with that, it would offer free child care for when the mother is being trained and then a sliding fee based on income once she gains employment.
Page 366 Unfortunately, whites seem to view those who are black as “one unit”. They stereotype young black males all the same rather than as individuals, the way they would if they were young white males. It is automatically assumed they have most likely been in trouble with the law and have criminal records, when on the contrary they could come from good homes, have college degrees, and never have been in trouble at all.
