Stopping by Woods on a Snowy Evening Essay Example
“Stopping by Woods on a Snowy Evening” Robert Frost has created a metaphoric poem about the journey of life as spoken through a weary traveler. The traveler decides to take a break from his journey with much disbelief from his little horse. I believe in the journey of life it is sometimes good and necessary to stop for a moment even if at the dismay of others. The traveler takes a moment to enjoy his surroundings as the poem says “These woods are lovely dark and deep” (line 13). He has also found comfort in the silence of the woods, “The only other sound’s the sweep of easy wind and downy flake” (lines 12 and 13). Ed Ingebretsen states that “Dark and unowned woods are a metaphor of life’s wildness”. I feel it is important to find calm in life’s journey which will give an opportunity to take a breath to recharge for the ups and downs of life’s journey. The traveler has stopped to enjoy himself in the moment, but soon comes to realize he must carry on cause he has many mile to go before he reaches his destination, “And miles to go before I sleep” (lines 15 and 16). Ingebretsen sais “The poem is about the boundaries and limits within which human beings live and the limits within which one must die”.
In conclusion, I believe in life we have obligations to uphold and many miles or years to go before our journey has reached its destination. I also believe it is good to take a moment to gather ourselves despite the many obligations we have.
