They get attracted to stuff during their childhood and if violence is exposed they will do the same thing and practice it during school. When their kids they can’t tell between what is good or bad and will try to do the same as what they seen before. Violence in television shouldn’t be allowed for anyone because it’s serious and common and can be taken in every place you go. Instead of viewing violence or practicing it there should be other activities or programs that are important and useful in our daily lives. Violence shouldn’t be seen as entertainment or as a hobby instead it should be prevented by making it stop in a safe and non-violent…
“America- It’s a free country. Part of that freedom is the right to listen to the music you love. But music can hurt, too. Some songs have lyrics that put down different races or groups. Some songs celebrate drugs and violence. What happens when music offends?” Music has always been a basic form of expression. From Antonin dvorak, to Eminem, to even ancient, tribal music, it has been a way through which individuals convey their thoughts and expressions. Everyone has the right to listen to what they want as long as they do it with consideration to others. Everywhere we turn, everything we do and say is being scrutinized, no longer are we all allowed to think freely, openly. All the censorship out there is a way of stopping our right of free expression because it doesn’t fit their description of what is decent and moral. What they fail to realize is that we all have our right to be free as long as no one is being out in danger, and I don’t think music has ever hurt anyone. Music shouldn’t be censored.…
The First Amendment to the Bill of Rights exists because the Founders of our country understood the importance of free expression. The First Amendment states "Congress shall make no law . . . abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press . . ." (Commission on the Bicentennial of the United States Constitution 17). One of the ways the American people use this freedom of speech and expression is through the creation of the art form known as music. Music's verbal expression bonds our society through our emotions and experiences. This fundamental right of freedom of expression is being threatened by public and governmental groups who believe they have authority to monitor and decide what others should experience. The censorship of music lyrics is a violation of our First Amendment right, and public groups should not be allowed to bypass this right to censor obscene lyrics produced in the music industry.…
In my opinion, what we see can affect us as much as what we hear. A large percentage of what we watch on music channels includes videos that show things that society shuns: violence, misogyny, drugs and sexuality.…
No, that's not true," says Wendy Wright of an organization, Concerned Women for America, on the enemy list of virtually all other anti-censorship supporters. "Censorship means that the government restrains speech. We are in favor of those in the music industry using common sense: In essence, that they don't promote behavior or activities that they wouldn't want committed against their wife or children." CWFA sees music the music in question as having potential to cultivate certain ideas in the minds of the youth."The argument that it does not affect kids, that it does not promote similar behavior, is ridiculous. If that were true, they would not advertise or rely on marketing both fields depend on the fact that humans can be enticed into doing something that they wouldn't have thought up on their…
Hundreds of books are banned from libraries in the United States every year. Even the most popular books that everyone else enjoys may be offensive to others. Which means it will no longer be eligible for people to read from their local library, or bookstore. Children’s books can also be banned, meaning teachers cannot read it to their students. The holy Bible has even been banned for its religious viewpoints. Literary works are still challenged, censored and banned for many different reasons.…
Often times, people will wait outside stores like Apple or Best Buy to get the newest technology available. With new technology constantly being developed it makes accessing media so much easier. From a single device, a person is able to play video games, stream movies or television shows and listen to music. However, few people realize that this constant exposure to media violence has led to many negative impacts on our thoughts, feelings and behaviour. After reading and analyzing all of the articles mentioned, it is quite evident that violent media, no matter how exposed you are to it, will have some sort of negative impact on a person even if it’s for a short period of time. So, while people should continue to enjoy their favourite video games, songs or TV shows, it is important to reduce exposure to violent media and understand the effects it could have on…
To censor is to ban or cut portions of a publication, film, letter, etc. For as long as literature has existed, so has censorship. Forms of censorship include banning and burning books and editing previously published literature. Who is to decide what books should be accessible? Today, certain people are entrusted with the task of reading books and deciding whether the offensive material outweighs the educational value. Is this really acceptable? Censorship of books is in no way beneficial to society. Censoring books in schools and libraries takes away the peoples choice. All forms of literary censorship violate the first amendment right to freedom of speech, and therefore are harmful to society.…
Ultimately, violent media are not the source of violence like school…
I read two essays, “Violent Media Numbs Viewers to Pain of Others”, by Diane Swanbrow and “Hate Violence? Turn It Off!” by Tim Goodman. In the first essay the author states that violent media exposure can reduce helping behavior. Basically meaning that people that watch violent media are less willing to help others when it’s needed because they are used to the violence and adapt to it. In the second essay, the author states that people feel that watching violent movies is a problem and is tired of parents complaining that it is damaging to children. Tim Goodman feels that parents should stop complaining and turn off the violence then through child lock and several other ways instead of getting rid of it completely.…
Boris Opening Statement- Censorship in music is a topic that has brought about much controversy in the past two decades. There have been many different arguments on the topic, however the question still remains as if it should be censored or it should not be censored. Before you can form an opinion on this, you must hear both sides of the argument on this much-debated topic. Some people believe that music should be censored so all audiences can hear it without it containing any controversial lyrics. Others believe it should not be censored and musical artists should be able to speak, sing, rap, or rhyme freely without anyone censoring them. Preventing speech is a clear violation of the First Amendment. When you really think about it, it is a violation of the First Amendment, which says: "Congress shall make no law abridging the freedom of speech or of the press". The First Amendment guarantees the right to freedom of speech, and censorship is violating peoples' rights to say whatever they…
According to the First Amendment, artists should be protected by the freedom of speech which by law should protect the artist from any censorship. For example, if a rapper uses vulgar language in one of their songs and raps about fighting or killing their enemy, it doesn’t necessarily mean that whoever is listening will go out and commit a murder. If you’re an adult, you can’t blame a song or an artist for your actions. Whatever an artist says in their music isn’t mean’t to be taken verbatim, in most situations the lyrics are just for entertainment, nothing more. Most people that support the censorship of music are only supporting it for personal reasons. Most people are willing to give up their freedom of speech just because they don’t agree with 21 Savage’s views on religion and how he lived his life or how Lil Wayne chooses to be in a gang or smokes weed.…
Censorship is an action that may seem well thought out, but is actually an ineffective and impractical stance of approaching violence in movies. Instead of developing solutions on how to shelter society, one should devote time to educating the youth on the dangers of violence and teach them the difference between fantasy and reality. This way, the United States of America will be safer and keep its capitalistic mindset in…
The U.S. Constitution says that everyone that is an American citizen has the right of free speech. You can find censorship almost anywhere around you. It’s in music, television, and even literature. I don’t believe that it is fair that there be some much censorship in a country that does nothing but promise freedom to all its occupants. It is said that suppression of all of these things helps to prevent the crimes that occur. However even with all of the restrictions, there are still people murdering and stealing. America was founded on freedom. Why should the government censor the motion picture industry, the…
Music carries many trends from generation to generation, but one of the oldest forms of censorship is what can and can’t be read on paper. Banned books are usually illegal because of certain information that could be a threat to someone or security. Censorship in today’s society can get out of hand real quick on both ends of the issue. It seems like there is always someone who is personally offended by something and tries to take whatever offended them away from everyone else. Then again, if there was no censorship, perhaps collective morals would cease to exist in society. What is not obscene to one person could very well be to another and that is one main reason why censorship does exist. However, that something is obscene to one person shouldn’t forbid another from seeing or hearing that form of expression if they want. Censorship helps gives the right to parents to raise their children in an environment in which parents feel comfortable and it helps parents decide what materials their children can be exposed to and what should be withheld. “We are living in a time when flowers are trying to live on flowers, instead of growing on good rain and black loam,” said Faber. What Faber is talking about is that censorship can also…
