The Castle, directed by Rob Sitch, is an Australian comedy, which delves into the lives of a stereotypical Australian family, the Kerrigans. The film touchs on issues close to home in a humourous way. The audience is introduced to the classic Aussie family, narrated in the viewpoint of the youngest of the Kerrigans, Dale.…

It is a mixed blessing to be able to see the movie version of a popular book. In most cases, Hollywood veers from the text and the viewer is left with a watered down version of the original. In the case of the Princess Bride, the cinema version is very close to the book. One such scene is Inigo and Fezzik’s visit to Miracle Max in search of a miracle. Setting, conflict, and dialogue are three points of high congruency.…
The main colours in the visual are orange, red, and black. These colours suggest emotions and mystery. The colour red suggests anger and rage, which is possibly felt by the main character at one point in the novel, and the colour black can create a sense of mystery. By just the colours, we can know that there is going to be mystery, anger and rage revealed in the novel. The distinction between the light and the dark gives a sense of mystery and foreboding.…

Sound is a cinematic technique that is used to display true characters. Specifically, there is a diegetic sound of Willy Wonka’s tune when the winners first arrive to the factory. The winners of the golden tickets, are greeted by Wonka’s very cheerful, colorful, and hyper song. The song being played shows how excited and ecstatic Wonka can be. Even though it is not himself singing, the fast pace and cheerful beat is what Willy Wonka really is about. In this case in “Edward Scissor Hands,” there is a diegetic sound of Edward breaking the microphone as he tries to touch it. With the town’s amazement of Edward, he landed a gig on a popular talk show. As they ask him questions he reaches for the microphone and with his scissor hands, a loud pop is heard, breaking the microphone. The loud pop of the microphone scared and left Edward afraid, because he did not expect it to happen. For the rest of the scene Edward is tense and is slightly insecure because he fears being judged after being seen in a negative way for most of his life. The sound in these films can show the real vulnerability and confidence to a…
At the beginning of the novel, the color red was standing out from all the other colors because it's a bright color. The color red is…
In my collage, I decided to choose the red background because red symbolises strength. Throughout the whole novel, both Philip and Michael have to be strong and stand-up for themselves and each other.…
Color is a very important part in explaining this chapter. The author used colors rather than direct adjectives to explain people's personalities and some scenes. Color can make a chapter boring, sad, or…
I had the opportunity to watch the film, Boyz N the Hood. While watching this film I was able to make connections to not only cultural problems which happen inside of the classroom, but problems that happen without. Throughout the entirety of this film the viewer is face to face with the decisions that make each character who they are and ultimately shape their future. What I noticed from an educational standpoint is that students need three things to be successful, the first being a positive and caring role model, the second is acceptance by their community and the third a sense of responsibility. The two themes which stood out most was whether or not these aspects were being applied to the child or not.…
Just the perfect color and lighting for this movie. This movie is shot in color, but the lighting in most of this movie is dimmed, which makes up the perfect creepy atmosphere. Many lights are lamplights or firelight, from the fireplace. In some scenes, when the power is on, there are some brighter lights in the house, but not too bright for the viewer. Instead, these lights make up a perfect golden-yellow atmosphere. When mixing with the characters themselves, the lighting is phenomenal. At the beginning, the young blonde woman is the first to appear out of the three strangers. When she knocks on the couple’s door at four in the morning, to which they answer, she is not yet wearing a mask. But in the darkness, you can only see her figure. As they talk to her, her face is shadowed out so that the viewer and the couple cannot see what she looks like. Of course, their faces are never revealed in the film. The brightest scenes in The Strangers, are at the end, when it is daylight out. In the daylight, it is shown what resulted in the horrific events that occurred in the night, when the two Mormon boys discover the wrecked house and the…
I would say this film has an overall blueish hue to it. Most of the scenes are dominantly cool colors including most of the costuming. Lina is seen in more cool colors than warm. We see her in blue and green dresses as well as some warmer, pink toned dresses. When it starts to get into the more seriously themed scenes, we see warmer colors start to take over both in the costuming and in the overall hue of the scene. The backgrounds in most scenes are full of more muted colors, and the subject or main focus of the scene is brightly colored. This can be seen when we first see Kathy dancing at the party. Most everything in the background is more dull and muted, but the girls are dressed in bright pink uniforms. We also see the overall tone change when we move into the “movie world.” The colors change to bright, dominant reds, yellows, and oranges with some contrasting cool colors mixed in sparsely. We can also see colors used pretty symbolically during certain parts of the film. A few examples that come to mind happen in the “movie world” Broadway scene. Gene Kelly’s character is dressed in bright yellow to show his optimism and enthusiasm. When we meet the new female character, she is dressed in bright green, maybe to form her into a symbol of lust or greed.…
Albert Camus' The Guest is about a schoolteacher named Daru that lives by himself in a schoolhouse out on a plateau somewhere in France. Daru is given the responsibility of transporting an Arab prisoner to a nearby city to face judgment. Daru was to have none of it. He wanted to lead his simple, uninterrupted life and be left out of the war that was evidently looming. Unfortunately for Daru, this was not an option for him and the man named Balducci left the prisoner at the schoolhouse despite Daru's objection.…
The quality and type of artwork is a direct replica from the original movie, which has unique, defining characteristics that helps children differentiate between the various characters and landscapes that appear in the film. The colors of the film are plentiful and vibrant, from the bright, white buildings of San Franjose to the deep, rich brown of the Hippotatomus, which draws the attention of children and keeps it focused throughout the film.…
