William Golding’s novel The Lord of the Flies is a very eye opening book. It shows you the true inner desires of evil and how they can change a person. It takes place during World War II on an uninhabited island. Themes of savagery and control in William Golding’s Lord of the Flies are revealed through the events of the plot and the characters’ thoughts words and actions. The boys slowly changed as there civilization they left behind became lost within themselves. Golding shows that in the beginning the boys remembered the rules in there old society. In the book Roger throws rocks at Henry, but aims to miss not to hit. (Golding 62) Clearly Roger still has some kind of sense of his old civilization where he had the protection of parents and rules to guide him. The once guided boys became lost in there new society. Once the boys got a taste of hunting it became a game. Golding shows how the boys developed a passion for hunting. In the beginning of the novel Jack was not able to kill the pig he then promises after being antagonized by the other boys that he will kill next time. (Golding 31) It seems like Jack has never killed anything before so he comes up with excuses of why he could not kill the pig. This shows that Jack was just like all the other boys in the beginning , they all were just innocent choir boys that had always had rules to follow and some one to guide them. The boys decided to cover themselves with different clays and coal to camouflage themselves for hunting. (Golding 62) The boys came up with a hunting chant “Kill the pig, cut her throat, spill her blood” (Golding 69) They changed from going around singing there happy choir songs to chanting this evil chant that is full of anguish. The deed of hunting changed from a necessity to find food for survival to a sport for the boys. It became an entertaining game that got out of control as time went on. Once the boys
