The book, “Uncle Petros & Goldbach’s Conjecture”, is a very intriguing book. It is basically about a young boy and how mathematics arrived into his life and what he did afterwards. It also contains a lot of stories about Uncle Petros, the boy’s uncle. But, as he hears more about Uncle Petros, he begins to retreat and strays away from the topic of math. This book is written by Apostolos Doxiadis. Unlike his father who was an architect, Apostolos Doxiadis decided to take a role in mathematics. But, before the start of his interest of mathematics, he loved writing books and directing, translating for the theater. His works are published in Greek then translated into many different languages due to the fact he was a popular mathematician writer. He went to Columbia University in New York when he was only 15 and graduated from Applied Mathematics at the École Pratique des Hautes Études i0 n Paris and incorporated mathematical models for the nervous system. His book, “Uncle Petros & Goldbach’s Conjecture”, was published in1992 and translated in 2000. Another book that received a lot of attention was “Logicomix”. He is now at the age of 59 with three children and a wife that is also a writer. So, what is the Goldbach’s Conjecture? Goldbach’s Conjecture states that “Every number greater than 2 can be written as the sum of two primes”. It is an unsolved problem and when the book “Uncle Petros and the Goldbach’s Conjecture” was released, Tony Faber (British publisher) decided to offer one million dollars for the proof of the conjecture. Proofs were only accepted before April 2002 but none of the proofs were right so of course, the money went nowhere except in Faber’s pocket. Though, a lot of mathematicians got intermediate results from researching and investigating the Goldbach’s Conjecture.
The book was about a young boy trying to follow his uncle’s footsteps of being a mathematician. With too much confidence,
