To begin with, we have equality rights; everyone gets treated the same. Homosexuality is allowed and gets treated fairly. In the movie, those that were a part of the gay/lesbian community were sent to concentration camps or jails. When they were taken there, the people tortured them and try to change them to be like everyone else. It most likely leads to death.
Also, in Canada we have fundamental freedom, which is the freedom of speech, thoughts, religion, opinion, etc. In the movie, there was a state religion meaning all that lived there were to believe in one religion (a form of Christianity). The people of Britain were deprived of their privacy; they had surveillance in their homes& people listening in on their phone calls. The government controlled everything and whatever the government says goes. If they had an opinion to express they knew better to keep it to themselves. Whereas in Canada, if you have an opinion you express it; it may not be to the person, but can be expressed through social media (twitter, facebook, etc).
In addition, they didn’t have legal rights. When Evey was thrown into jail she wasn’t allowed to get a lawyer to back her up. But in Canada when you get convicted of a crime, the first thing you get to do is get a lawyer to help you fight the case. Furthermore, in the movie the government shut off immigration. They only allowed one race which was the whites. It was not multicultural society, it was more monoculture. The government in the movie portrayed it as a perfect country.
Last but not the least, they didn’t have mobility rights. When you live in Canada you as a resident have the right to go where you want at anytime with no penalty. Whereas in the movie, the people couldn’t go where they wanted; they had a
